One time some republican friends of mine tried talking me into voting for bush, I asked them if they could just pass me the koolaid so I could get this over with.
Unfortunately, people invited into a cult are rarely told it is a cult. However, when you are kept away from similar groups under the pretense that your group is the best of all. excluding all others, that is the beginning.
When you are told what to say, what to wear, how to act, who you can hang with, chances are you are in a cult.
If it’s difficult to leave, or threats are made when you voice the fact that you would like to leave, it’s a cult.
Any Scientologists on Fluther?
Does Catholic school count?
Yeah the Watchtower advocates aka Jehova Witnesses came to my doorstep trying to get me in their cult.
Seventh-Day Adventist for 10 years. That qualifies for sure.
No, but I was once prayed over by evangelists.
I was raised in the Mormon (Latter Day Saints) religion and they’ve been called a cult so I guess that qualifies also.
I’m not sure what passes for “grooming” though.
I think I was. But I was asking too many questions and I was working as a journalist at the time so I think they thought I was trying to infiltrate them (I really just wanted to find out more about them). Not sure if it was a cult or a social movement though, I never understood enough. They were calling it “the Cause”, but wouldn’t explain what it was that we were supposed to be doing, other than vaguely “making the world a better place”. They stopped inviting me to the meetings after the second session. To this day I have no idea who they were.
wow, your question made me look them up. They were these guys:

I was confirmed into Catholicism at age 13.
When it comes to the Latter Day Saints,(Mormons), grooming = brainwashing. I know.
If Amway counts then yes…
