I am laughing at your punctuation. By the way, I am the old lady.

@Sueanne_Tremendous yeah, he sure, loves, commas, doesn,t he? ;)

@oasis some things are set by social norms, other things are your upbring and culture. A lot of cultures uphold (to whatever degree) respect for the elderly and women. Perhaps yours doesn’t.

Also, things that are funny to one culture, are quite the opposite to others. Play “Monty Python’s Life of Brrian” to someone from the Bible Belt in the U.S. Try telling a Russian joke to an American. Both will fall flat. It’s context.

Yeah,i do, like, a comma,or, two, however what you see are marks representing commas,so technically, they are not actually commas,so your humour is misguided.

@oasis so are you offended by my “misguided” humo(u)r?

oasis's avatar

Nah,i agree with everyone.Ithink you will find the spelling is correct,it was at origin.Peace n love

@oasis ah, i see: “oasis”, “humour”,“old ladies falling” – you’re British. all good, except it’s punctuation, not spelling. kudos!

I deal with the “offensive humor” issue all the time. I can’t be offended and I find A LOT of things funny that don’t fall into the socially acceptable category such as: dead baby jokes, pedophile jokes, racist jokes, and pretty much anything else deemed tasteless and disgusting. I don’t have to believe in something to think it’s funny.

I don’t think that society, as a whole, sets the standard on what we’re allowed to openly enjoy. I feel it’s only a select few but they just happen to be the select few that speak up loud enough that everyone follows. Humans (American’s especially) are followers. There’s very little individuality in the group so it’s easier to just follow what someone else says than to think for yourself and do what you feel is right for you.

(Old woman falling over… hilarious)

Sensitivity, sensitivity, sensitivity.

Some people have too much, some have too little.

I have too little, but I’m learning to judge a persons sensitivity prior to inserting my foot into my mouth.

I am also the old lady. Oasis, perhaps you have found the fountain of youth; do you think that old men who are unsteady on their pins also draw a big crowd of amused bystanders?

There is a cabal of people who set the rules and then enforce them. Forget about common decency and the Golden Rule.

Hey gail, how nice of you to chirp up,i mean no offence,it’s like being in the Headmasters office and you know you should not laugh however you think stuff it and laugh like a hyena regardless of the consequence.Peace n Love

@Oasis :I was married to a Headmaster for a long, long time. It was fun. If you meant not to be offensive, you should have edited. You can’t have it both ways. Taking offensive is subjective and also age-related, I have found. (How old are you, by the way?)

I have never been called “chirpy” before; if anything, I consider myself anti-chirpy. I am human, I am American and I define for myself what makes me laugh. If I am laughing, then it is funny.

@oasis & gailcalled: Nice banter and this is a perfect example of how humor, in it’s entirety, is subjective. I understand how both sides of the argument work and how they are viewing the same thing.

2 men are in a boat fishing. Man #1 pulls back to cast and slaps the other in the face with his rod (lol I know, right). Man #2 falls backward out of the boat. Oasis falls out of his chair laughing and Gail rolls her eyes.

An English literature pun like, “A fool’s brain digests philosophy into folly, science into superstition, and art into pedantry. Hence Fluther-based education.” could make Gail laugh while Oasis stares blankly at the screen.

I don’t really know what makes you all laugh. These are just to prove my earlier stated point.

To each their own. Love you guys. I’m out
