Hot wings or taco salad?
it’s super bowl sunday and the food is on! do you gorge on the wings or get comatose on chili, sour cream, chips, salsa and all that other tex-mex stuff. why do these choices go over so well? why not meatloaf and mashed potatoes?
what is on your super bowl table? BBQ, whole pig? couscous? tofu?
do you watch the game or eat the whole time? what do you eat?

Wings, yes.
Chili, yes.
Clam Dip with Fritos (old family tradition)
Guacamole
Quesadillas
Seven Layer Dip
Tex Mex and football—so American!
I’m going to go with the premise that we are a junk food society and that the whole finger foods, snacks, and Hors D’oeuvres idea is such a prevalent theme for parties and gatherings and it tastes so darn good too! Additionally, the nice assortment of choices makes it even more appealing but a main entree (meatloaf and mashed potatoes thing like you mentioned in your details) just doesn’t seem right while hanging out with friends and going nuts over the football game.
I understand that my point of view could be totally wrong on this but somehow it makes sense to me.
Go Cardinals!
I’m buying four 5lb. bags of wings in the morning.
We watch the game, that’s what football fans do right?
The eating just goes along with it.
@Bluefreedom. Makes sense to me.
Nachos
taco salad
spinich dip
chili
alll good
I like to include something either from the grain or fruit food groups: Beer, wine, Scotch.
The last time we had a Super Bowl party we served chili w/ assorted toppings and fried chicken from Popeye’s (spicy and mild). Plus the usual: BEER. Yum.
@Grisson,...Beer Wine, and Scotch is the worst law firm ever.
i’ll never beat this drunk and disorderly
Throw a jar of salsa, two cut up avacado, a can of sweet corn (drained), a can of black beans (rinsed & drained), a little honey, a little lime juice, and some chopped cilantro into a big bowl and mix well. Open a bag of chips, crack a beer, and sit your ass down on the couch.
@Blondesjon Agreed, harkening back to an earlier question which rhymed liquor and sicker, how about I change that to ‘One of 3 food groups: beer, wine or scotch’.
No need to cause excessive cleanup after the game.
Big pot of chili
salsa
salami and cheese plate
beer cheese
fruit
hot wings
In other words, nothing good for you…except the fruit…
speaking of “nothing good for you,” i was in the 15 items or less line today and happened to see a 3-year-old girl a couple aisles over munching on a big bag of “cheetos” at 9 in the morning (mother-approved). what has happened to our breakfast morals? why have some of us strayed from healthy?
ok, back to thread…
So far we are at:
vegies and dip
homemade pizzas with many toppings
wings
Sombrero dip (ground meat, refried beans, cheese, salsa, etc all served HOT)
and we haven’t walked through the grocery store yet! (smile)
i think i’ll make beef short ribs or beef stew. for once—in several years—it seems i’ll be home with no special party, just immediate family.
could it be the dull boring match-up? or is super bowl dead? hmmmm…
Yum, beef stew! Nice crisp rolls for scooping up the last juices.
There will be no party here, but if there were, I’d make my killer hot wings. They’re a family tradition with us. A must for the holidays & the 4th of July. So that’d top the menu here. Also my tortilla roll-ups. mmmmm
Look out Hooters here I come. I will be having a Superbowl party and wings are on the menu. Five orders of 50 wings all Bentley Style.
@gooch Hi, long time no chat. Bentley style?
It’s not on the menu you must ask. It’s hotter than 911.
I live in Buffalo, so of course there will be wings. Real wings, not that silliness I’ve seen everywhere but here.
Chili, beef on weck (another Buffalo thing) baked ham and roasted turkey for big ass sandwiches, taco dip, veggie tray, chips and dips, all sorts of junk food. This makes me think of a good question to ask…
Creole BBQ Shrimp (a beer based bbq sauce- yum!) , wings (of course!), nachos – loaded, veggies and dip, mini open face sandwiches….assorted snacks (cookies, brownies).
BEER, soft drinks, bottled waters, iced tea.
That’s what is on our thrown together menu! We wound up asking a few couples over and it’s grown!
