Apparently the different services have rather convoluted fee schemes. Here’s an interesting link which discusses TurboTax’s filing fees along with some others.
Semi-free?

I used TurboTax this year, and paid NO fees whatsoever. I believe in some part it depends on your tax status, what healthcare coverage you have (if any) and so on. It was great, and i got myself a fat refund.

I use TaxAct.com. Free to do your federal, a $39 fee to file state. But state forms are usually significantly easier, so I just do that one via paper.

Depending on your financial situation, you may or may not qualify for free federal and/or state filing by other companies. Take a look at the IRS’s official list here: http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html?portlet=6

I use TurboTax, too. Very easy and you get your return fast. Federal is free, state is $30.00, I believe. Doing the State returns isn’t hard though, so I’d just do that on your own.

@DrasticDreamer yeah, i guess i should have stated that i live in Florida, and thusly, no state income taxes to pay for. doh.

File-2-Give is really good. Could possibly be free depending on what state you live in and how complex your tax return is. Plus, if you do have to pay, they donate 100% of profits to charities.
