Spoon in your coffee?

When I make myself a cup of coffee, I always leave the spoon in the cup. I don’t know why I like it in there. Does anyone else do this? Have you poked yourself in the eye with the spoon handle? I haven’t…yet.

Not to rain on your parade, but that will, theoretically at least, make it cool down faster
The spoon will help draw some of the heat out. That’s the excuse my aunt always used to use for leaving the spoon in her tea.

@Harp @Grisson I’m one of those odd people who will drink coffee at any temp. I actually think it tastes best at room temp.
My mother always said that having the spoon in the hot drink kept it from spilling if you were walking with the cup in your hand…personally, as soon as I sit down, before I sip, the spoon comes out…otherwise it would require my finger to keep it out of my face, and I would have to think about it before I drank…not something I want to have to do…amazing that you don’t take it out!!!
@elijahsuicide So when it gets to room temperature, do you take out the spoon?
Yes, i do this as well. Partially, i think, because my great-grandfather did it. He did it because, according to Russo-Ukrainian folk tradition, silver, be it a coin or a spoon, will “cleanse” water of microbes, bacteria, etc.
I can’t stand coffee at room temperature…have to either microwave it or add more hot water, but that can be a disaster for the taste side of it…very particular with my coffee…must be hot enough to need to sip.
@Grisson nope. The spoon stays from start to finish. I like to give it a stir before I sip.
I do that! With coffee and tea!
I haven’t poked my eye yet, but I’m a pro at the sip while moving the spoon just so gesture.
U used to let it in, until I actually really have poked myself in the eye. Had no particular reason to leave it in the cup, just did.
Well, since I strain my coffee, there is always sediment at the bottom, and if I stirred it, I would drink it, so…....I also leave the dregs in my turkish coffee. Do you drink them?
@ubckfc
Nah. Despite them having a more pleasant taste than one may think I hate them being all over my teeth.
I read somewhere that a spoon is relatively useless at drawing out much heat. Blowing is the best way to cool it, and stirring is second best. So the ultimate way to cool down your coffee is to stir it with a spoon while blowing it simultaneously.
Thanks. I knew someone would.
