How do you get your news?

Asked by jonsblond (44203points) February 4th, 2009 from iPhone

How do you keep yourself informed? Do you receive the daily paper? Watch your local news? FOX, MSNBC, CNN, Daily Show, Weekend Update?
Or do you rely on the Internet?

I turn on the local news at 6am, then switch to Morning Joe. In the evening I watch FOX and the Daily Show, and who can’t resist Weekend Update on SNL. I also get the local Sunday paper. I like to be entertained, as well as informed.

I watch CNN almost 24hrs, it’s my default channel. Aside from that, I read a large variety of blogs (via Google Reader) – including NY Times blogs, tech blogs, etc. I’ll check the CNN website at work, as well.

Local news doesn’t really interest me, although i’ll pay attention to the news briefs between breaks on the Today show. (except the 4th hour, when i switch to CNN – Ugly Hotep and the Banshee can drop dead, fwit)

I read Time and Newsweek at work.

@eponymoushipster I usually have the news on throughout the day myself. Since 9/11, I have been glued to the news. I’m almost afraid that I’m going to miss something. weird?

Thanks! I forgot to include magazines. new I was forgetting something

@jonsblond yeah, i know a few ppl like that. here’s an interesting thought:

have we become more “information-centric” since 9/11 because of technological advances (iPhone, Crackberry, etc.), or did we strive to those advances because of what happened on 9/11?

i know i know, BlackBerry existed BEFORE 9/11, but the flourishes in instant updates, etc. has expanded considerably since then, no?

That’s a good question, one I’m not quite prepared for. dinner and Lost

I do agree that it has expanded since 9/11. Especially with the threat level that we had. What happened to that? Duh, election!

@jonsblond my threat level is set to wacky tangerine!

I dont have cable tv, and only buy newspapers for the crossword puzzles…..if its news I care about Im sure someone will say something to me.

I work at a place where “small talk” is the only kind of talking going on, so if there is anything new going on in the world I usually hear about it.

NPR, Slate.com, and the Daily Show.

I like my news through the filter of time and perspective as much as possible. Do you realize the news of Lexington and Concord took two weeks to reach the capital?

That said, I listen to NPR, read the paper selectively, and for the very few items I am especially interested in hearing up-to-the-minute information on, cross check on a number of Web sources.

@Marina i guess i should have added, i get a lot of NPR podcasts, but i’m not in the car super often to listen to actual radio.
