Can you be "in lust", yet have strong feelings for someone?

Asked by Jude (32204points) February 5th, 2009

Not sure if this question makes any sense. I know someone that said ‘they may have confused lust for love, yet had “strong feelings” for the other person. I don’t understand that.

Definitely. That’s usually how I’ve gotten to know my girlfriends.

You see a girl/guy you like the look of, and you lust for them, you think they’re really hot.
you then find out they have an amazing personality too, you don’t necessarily have to be in love to have strong feelings.
Lust and Love/Strong feelings are two separate things.

Yes you can. You can also have strong feelings for someone who you do not love.

There have been interesting studies regarding how our brains interpret and process love, lust, desire, and the different phases and types of love we go through in relationships. Lust is often the first stage, which sometimes does or does not progress into love.

Yes, and contrary to what many of us might like to think, as @dynamicduo said, there have been many recent studies that have shown a person can have very strong feelings for more than one person at once.

This is why raising children with strong vocabularies is important. There’s such a range of emotions, and being able to correctly identify and articulate which one it is, helps you understand the course of action to take. You have like, love, lust, intrigued, fascinated, crushing, obsessed, lusting, just to name a few. All tend to come to different ends.
