Why is puberty happening so late?

I’m turning 19 in 23 days. I’ve never been a hairy guy, until now. I’m starting to grow a beard and chest hair, but only in the last week. My armpits have been hairy for less than 3 months, and my legs have been hairy for about 6 months. I’ve been extremely moody in the last month, and I’m having acne problems, despite the use of Accutane.
Why s puberty starting only when I’m turning 19? Usually it’s 13 or 14. Why am I so slow?

One monkey to another, and i say this in all seriousness, i was only moderately hairy until i hit late teens, about 20. then it just exploded.
now friends ask my i swim with a sweater.
i’m dead serious. i think it’s normal.
Im 27 and I get hairier everyday. It don’t think it stops. My dad looks an ape. Im scared I will too. He is getting hairier too but not so much at his hairline.
Puberty takes different turns for different people. My 19 year old daughter’s tall- like 5’7” and weighs about 110 lbs on a good day. She wears an extra small in t-shirts. She came home from college needing all new bras, asking the same question, “I thought this was over 5 years ago!”
yeah I wasn’t hairy until like 18… and it sucks haha. Mainly because my brother’s aren’t hairy but my Dad is… just another reason I feel that every negative gene I could have inherited I did.
There is a natural range for pubertal development. Some people, such as yourself, are “late bloomers”, while others look 21 when they are 13. It’s all in your genes…
I think your puberty was just out drinking the night before and had a hard time waking up.
Males typically go through puberty later than females. There is no set age when it must happen. I’ve had girl friends who went through puberty at age 8 and guy friends who didn’t go through it until 21 or 22. It just depends.
