If so, what do they call them? I know I had to take them, but it’s been a while. Is the SAT etc. the only ones left?

The SAT, the ACT, the GRE, the GMAT, the LSAT, the MCAT.
SAT and ACT are pre-college.
GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT are pre-graduate school depending on what you’d like to do. GRE is general, GMAT business, LSAT law school, and MCAT medical school.
@EmpressPixie — Thanks! Maybe you can tell me, then: Is there a bypass test you can do to get a Bachelor’s in, say, General Studies?
No, but if you want to get your Masters, you can often make the case for your experience and knowledge being sufficient replacement for the lack of a Bachelors.
@EmpressPixie—lurve it! What an inspiring thought! Now to find Redneck U.
My daughter just took something called the THEA test – no idea what it stands for but if she scores well she’ll be taking courses at the local junior college while still in high school.
They also still have both AP and CLEP tests, which allow high school credits and past knowledge to count towards college placement, letting you skip some required classes.
@Darwin,
I CLEP’d my way through most of my first year of college — back in 1980–82. Didn’t know they still had it; might be worth looking into!
Good luck to your daughter!
Yeah, I CLEP’d out of my first two semesters worth of credits, so I went into college with 32 credits already. I was never officially a freshman.
I hope she does well, too, because the college she wants to go to is mondo expensive. She already has passed two AP tests with 5’s.
CAT’s is one I have heard of. Moreso in Rhode Island, though, I am pretty sure.
PSAT’s (Pre-SAT) and SAT.
Oh, and there is ASS.
Achievemently Stupid Standardizations.
Who ever thinks that was bad BOOYA! No it wasn’t! Someone tell me to get a life, please.
