What causes the moderators to take questions down?

I answered what I thought was a relatively benign question. I was the first answerer. And now it’s gone! There’s a message there saying the question has been removed until the asker can make it more appropriate! WTF?

Guidelines violations.
Sometimes it’s hard to spot. Ask the original poster what it was, maybe he’ll tell you if you’re particularly curious. It might be back up in a few minutes. No worries. :)
@asmonet, I would if I could remember who posted it! Maybe @Leeds? When I try to go to my answer on that page, for which someone gave me lurve, yet, nothing shows up except the error message.
People complaining will make it be taken down.
[Mod says] The question was clearly flame-bait from a user with an agenda. It had to do with placing family members in a nursing home, but in a wholly disingenuous way. In general, questions can be removed because they are inappropriate, spam, poorly constructed or poorly worded. Many questions, once removed, go back up once the asker corrects/modifies it to be more suitable. However, other questions never reappear if the user ignores the request for modification or if there really is no way to salvage the question. In the future, if you have concerns or complaints, feel free to contact one of the mods directly, or use the contact link at the top of the site. Hope that answers your question. Oh, and you still get to keep your lurve! Yeah!
@Darwin Complaints don’t always lead to removal. Mostly because there’s always someone who complains about something…
I see shilolo is crafting.. he can take this one.
@shilolo — hmm! I didn’t see it that way. How do you mean, “disingenuous”? And what agenda did you see in it? I just saw someone feeling very guilty.
How about “Sometimes people complaining will make it be taken down.”
OK, I’ve had my answer. So how do I remove this Q?
You don’t. Once a question is asked, unless it’s modded, it’s here forever, and ever, and ever..
I’ve been dunned twice for vagueness. Most recently for the question “Are Mods Mod?” I tried to fix it, but somehow, after they vetted it the second time and approved it, it disappeared into internet limbo. By that time, the question no longer seemed relevant, so I had no interest in asking it any more.
Oh yeah, my first question ever was also considered vague. That one I fixed successfully.
[mod says:] When we censor a question for being too vague it sometimes has something to do with the questions heading. For example, a question that just reads “Should I?” and then gives details in the thread itself will get censored. A good question lets other jellies know what it’s about before they even click on it.
I asked a question that simply said “Morelli or Ranger.” Anyone who reads Janet Evanovitch would immediately know what the question was about. It was removed because it was too vague or something like that. I reworded it slightly, I forget how and it was approved but only received a couple of responses, guess there aren’t many Janet fans in here. But later I saw a similar question that was allowed to remain as is. I think it depends upon which moderator is watching and what kind of mood they are in, in addition to the inevitable arbitrary guidelines of course.
I just think that Shilolo is a hard ass.
@AstroChuck Dammit! Those pictures were supposed to be private!
@rooeytoo It also depends on if there are already responses. If there aren’t any, then we may ask you to edit it before too many eyes see it. If it already has a bunch of responses then there really isn’t much of a point to editing it anymore.
Hope this is helping.
Moderators have little moments when they are a bit abusive.
$10 THIS post is gettin’ the boot
I’ll take your money. Mods won’t remove criticism as long as it doesn’t violate the guidelines.
Thank you all for the help. Lurva ya!
Seriously? Cool!
Thanks. I just posted a quip against you, though, so no money :(.
But Lurve! Isn’t is better?
no it isn’t
