Do you behave differently on different websites or do you stay the same no matter where you are?
Fluther, FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, Askville, Yahoo whatever, blogs, any place where there is an online group of people with it’s own culture—are you the same wherever you go, or do you change depending on the culture of the place you are?
If you change, how would you characterize those changes? If you stay the same, how would you characterize the personality of your core online presence. If you troll, it would be really interesting to hear how you change, and what roles you take on.

I have never found another web site I wanted to spend significant amounts of time on.
Am I wasting your time by answering that this is the only website that I visit?
it’s true
I’m the same in life and on the web. I don’t get the point of taking on different personas depending on the setting. I do understand adapting to social mores as a matter of decorum, but being someone I’m not? I can’t do that. I like to think that if I wouldn’t say it in person, I wouldn’t say it online. I know that some people use the net as a form of a second life, but I can’t get behind that. I have enough of a challenge making the most out of my first life!! But, hey, if cyber whatever is what gets one’s life something more, I say do your thing.
I am different on Facebook just because the people have known me longer as “ernie and brian”
And I am a little more submissive on www.submissivegimptwins.com
Other than that nope.
I come from a long history of debating in the Youtube comment section (yes, debates, not flamewars- it is possible, even there). However, although I kept my comments civil and made sure to think them through thoroughly, I never made much of an effort not to offend people, because there is such a vast pool of people on Youtube that there is an almost-perfect sense of anonymity. So when someone was acting like a jerk, I would make a sarcastic dig at them, while here, where one can have actual relationships with other users, I would instead treat them more as I would in person. Of course, the issue rarely comes up on Fluther. Its much nicer here.
@Bri_L Ha, you got me to look!
My first thought was, “Of course I’m the same everywhere. I don’t change my stripes when the scenery changes!”
Then, I realized I was wrong. I don’t share as much of “me” when I’m on sites like Fluther or AV as I do on my blog. The people there, I have known (in some cases) for half my life. Here, I’ve known some people half a month. And some things I just don’t want to put out there on the Internet At Large, but I will if it’s a little more private.
I think I am the same on almost all websites. I use the same name and/or avatar typically, and try always to be civil.
However, I am a bit more circumspect about personal information on a business-related forum and use a different name and avatar. Oddly enough, there are competitors there who will deliberately purchase something from someone just so they can bomb their feedback and disrupt their sales.

I’m me everywhere. Take it or leave it.
@vanslonski – do you ever make sense or is your incoherence a constant condition?
I behave differently. Not very much, but there’s a little more lol, ^_^ and #$%& on other sites.
There are other websites?
just good ‘ol me, wherever I go…..
I pretty much split my time from here & Askville. I have the same avatar & the same screen name in both places. If you know me in one place, you know me in the other. I am what I am & this is what you get. Period. WAY more people know me on AV than here, so I may be a little more open there. But I still play it rather close to the vest. I’m not a tell all person. Only people that are real close to me know & what’s going on in my head. I could name maybe just 3 on here that know me that well.
Well, I am the same personality anywhere. Internet, real life. Now, when I am on aim, I talk and get into things with friends, so my personality goes to zany and fun. Rare of me because you really have to dig down deep to get the out of me.
I’m different everywhere I go, but that’s just me.. so I guess SAME.
I am always myself everywhere (unless it is some RPG, which I don’t play nowadays anyway). Fluther is actually the only place where I don’t use my real name.
I’m a “one website” girl.
I don’t contribute to other websites…
I’m sort of an asshole, no matter where I go. I see no point in confusing people.
Is that a picture of you on your avatar?
Nope, its a picture from a Toyota ad. I don’t post my real face on here because I don’t want to give the people under thirty nightmares when they see what a life of hard living will do to the human face. I subscribe to the AstroChuck theory of avatars.
ok…............
Are you a boy or a girl?
Sorry to be so interrogative.
Um, let me see….just a second, checking….dammit!, stupid tight pants…ouch! don’t ask why I said ouch yup, I found testicles, I’m a man. At age forty-eight, I am well past the age of being called a boy, unless it is derisively and by a mortal enemy.
Hey, I love answering questions, that’s why I joined Fluther.
OK then,
Why are you wearing tight pants if you are a man?
Um…men don’t wear tight pants unless they are from the 80’s.
Plus, its a bit harsh on the package…
Ohh nono not those. I thought you meant These haha.
I own a pair @Darwin ‘s jeans, but darker
those links should come with warnings. seriously. shudder
That isn’t clothing! That’s paint!!!
Or metal guys. they also wear tight pants.
Why I wear tight pants is really none of your business unless you are volunteering to be my fashion consultant. But if you must know, I weigh 500 lbs. and even sweatpants fit tight on me. I am also as hairy as an ape, and have more chins than a Chinese phone book.
You asked, and now you have a mental picture that makes you want to poke out your mind’s eye with a sharp stick.
Too much knowledge is dangerous, son.
Don’t be so hard on your self.
I prefer to be different characters everywhere.
USA should make show about me.
