General Question

I have a gorgeous 50 x 70 cm picture frame without the glass. I'd like to get some glass cut to fit the frame, but am hoping that it won't be all that expensive. Where could you go to get the glass cut (hardware store?) and do you think that it would be expensive?

take it to a craft store.

Look up “glass” in your local YP. Call them. It shouldn’t be very expensive, but you’ll need to be careful taking it home!

Easy. Go to a place that does custom framing.

Home Depot or Lowes will cut glass to size and charge very little for it.

Thanks!

a glass cutting shop—the same people you visit when you have a broken mirror. And no, it shouldn’t be very expensive at all.

I would say a local hardware store. I used to work at one and regular glass was only like a partial cent per square inch. That whole piece should only be a couple bucks. I always thought it was odd, though, that plexi-glass was extremely expensive in comparison.

And if you want to go cheaper, go with plastic instead of glass.

I think that I’ll try Home Depot. Thanks.

Yep, any local hardware store will do. And I’d use the local guys instead of the “home depot” types, you’ll help your community by using the local guys. It won’t be very expensive either way.

I second the local-guys suggestion, and I also suggest not going to a custom frame shop, because they’ll try to sell you special museum glass, which will cost the world.

I’m also trying to figure out how big 50×70cm is in inches. It seems to me it’s fairly tiny.
This will cost you more in the calories it takes you to walk down the block than it will in dollars.
