Would sloths make good pets?
I mean, they’re so darn cute!

I wouldn’t mind having a sloth. I’d cuddle it. =]
I have a sloth for a roommate.
No. They are not domesticated.
well they wouldn;t jump all over the furniture would they? So at least they would be tidy lol.
they take 3 months or so to digest a meal, imagine the droppings..
quite convenient.
I have always wanted a pet sloth! I think we were made for each other!!!
While they may be cute, they are a wild animal. Let them stay in the wild – how ‘bout I offer you one of my children? :)
Uh…no. I used to work with sloths when I was a zookeeper, and let’s just say that if you like your fingers, don’t get a sloth. If you like to psychologically damage wild animals, get a sloth. Actually, don’t get a sloth either way.
While they wouldn’t jump on the furniture, they do climb. And while their eeeexxxtttrrreeeemmmeeeelllyyyy ssssllllooooowwww movement makes them easy to catch up with, they have wicked claws, great strength, and no compunction about using them.
And, as others have said, they aren’t domesticated and will bite (or claw) the daylights out of you.
At first I thought one would fit in quite well with our lifestyle but after watching the video, I’d say no… They don’t look cuddly with those “toes”.
@cak
I think that’s the third time I’ve heard you try and hand off one of your children in a question…
@cak I’m interested, but first, what’s the return policy? I never take an offer without knowing if I can return the item, if it turns out to be defective in some way.
I don’t think you would need a return policy on CAK’s kids – they are too cute AND bright! I would take them in a flash!
If you are a terrible housekeeper, they will eat bugs and rodents. And if you are a terrible housekeeper it’s good to know that with their extremely high fiber diet (2/3 of their weight is what’s in their digestive tract) it’s good to know they only defecate/urinate about once a week and always in the same place. You won’t have to clean up so often and then probably only in one room.
@Foolaholic and @evelyns_pet_zebra – I can’t give them away, but this morning, it was tempting. They were both in moods and I’m fairly certain the little one was plotting. The 15yr old was reminding me that we need to drive this afternoon….drive, yeah – I want to risk my life today. Otherwise, I’ll keep them! Besides, I think my husband might tag-a-long, if they go. He really thinks they are funny. (so do I!)
@Dandy – thank you! I think so, too!!
@cak – Ah, go ahead and drive today with your daughter. It will definitely take your mind off other things, at least for the duration of the trip.
You know what’s really scary? When they actually have their license, can disappear almost at will and go “out” and do “nothing” with “nobody,” and then they come home and the next day you realize the front fender is trashed. Then you try and ask them about it and you become the enemy, all the while wondering if and when your insurance company will send you “the letter.”
Have fun – you will all survive it although it doesn’t feel like it right now. Just be glad they aren’t really sloths – the desire for green hair is their only connection.
@Darwin – oh wow! Life seems so much easier, at this very moment!
you can technically order them offline but you need a permit and a very large room with live trees to keep them in and you cannot bathe them my friend who works with animals told me that their fur grows algea and they stink from it also she said their very “mouthy” meaning they like to chew on things and those toes are like razor sharp, but they are cute and they are smart
But at least when they run away they do so slowly.
