How does the the battery meter work on my mac?

Asked by simone54 (7642points) February 11th, 2009

It says right now there is 3:17 left. I don’t believe it.

Obviously if I’m running the DVD player or the HD is running a lot, it’s gonna kill the battery faster.

Yes if you use the DVD or HD drive battery time will be reduced although not as much as if the CPU is running maxed out.

To answer your question the mac is guessing how long the battery will last using past performance as an indicator of future performance. Just like the financial markets, some times it gets it wrong.
