Aw, he just wants to be the new Andy Kaufman.
I heard the interview was a scam. Viral marketing for a new movie/documentary.
uhhh…it’s not a scam, he’s on drugs.
I didn’t even know about the taking up rap and falling off a stage. Anyone have a link?
no one can make any factual comments about this. all opinions. just wait and see… or just not care..
I sure liked him in Gladiator, thought he was a weak Johnny Cash on ” I Walk The Line ”, but then again there could only be one Man In Black.
@fireside – Yikes! He seems to have gone bonkers. I don’t see his life ending well…. thanks for the links!
You may recall his older brother River Phoenix, a promising young actor whose life ended abruptly due to a drug overdose in 1993 at age 23. This was one screwed up family having moved to Venezuala after joining a cult. The kids were fruit pickers and street vendors in that country until they all returned to the states. I think Joaquin is ready to check out any day now.Once drugs get a hold, its tough to let go.God help him.
I’m thinking drugs, alcohol and an ego issue. He pouted because he didn’t get an Oscar and wasn’t further recognized for his talent and quit acting. we’ll see how long that lasts. He is in the middle of a tantrum. My 5 year old doesn’t throw tantrums.
Too bad, he has talent.
He’s trying to develop a musician/drug addict/I’m really sensitive persona. It’s probably bullshit but he might actually be fucked up. I’m sure even that would be calculated to some extent.
The fact that he’s wearing sunglasses says ‘marketing stunt,’ (as JP says) to me.
That whole thing reminds me of this one on Letterman with Crispin Glover. I don’t think Joaquin Phoenix’s is an act either. I think there are some real out-of-touch-with-reality issues going on for the guy. It’s a shame. He did have some talent.
@cyndyh That was great. I’m a huge fan Crispin Glover, but you should know that was actually an act; he was playing a character from Ruben and Ed. How many don’t know this and still think he was high or something, I don’t understand. I guess Ruben and Ed never ascended from underground status.
Don’t get me wrong, Cripin Glover is naturally a weirdo but I don’t think he’s as out of touch as he lets on.
I think Ruben and Ed was after his meltdown on Letterman by about 4 years.
I don’t know if it’s an act or not but i think he seems pretty cool. Definitely sorta hippied out a little bit but to each his own. He’s had his time as a star and maybe he just wants to get high, listen to hip hop and jam music and enjoy his life for a while.
I can’t say i wouldn’t want the same lol
@cyndyh It was way after, yes. Either way, it was amazing. The joaquin Phoenix bit was interesting as well. He certainly appears high or whatever.
Remember when he thought he had a frog eating his brain?
I saw a video of him rapping at a club, I’ll try to find it again. The boy sucks.
And needs to grow up or quit this stunt.
I was going to say what asmonet said about the frog. I don’t know I think he’s on drugs for sure, and he needs to hook me up!! He’s sooooo hot I don’t even understand.
Personally I do not subscribe to the “he’s on drugs” theory. If my brother died because of them, I personally would be a bit more wary around them. Then again, who really knows.
I support the theory that he’s putting on a Kaufmanesque vibe in order to take the audience on a ride via Casey Affleck’s documentary. There were a few parts on the Letterman interview where he gave a small smirk, and it seemed a bit obvious that he was really trying hard to act his new part. I mean, what’s the difference between acting in a movie, versus acting in real life and making a movie out of the resulting events? He’s still playing a character in both situations – he’s just taking the world in as the audience in his method. This article goes into it a bit more.
It could be however that Joaquin really does have some interest in music, and that doing it may not necessarily be for the only reason of for this documentary, but for Joaquin’s personal happiness. Or due to drugs. Whatever reason it is, I wish him luck. So what if he sucks, lots of people suck at the things they like to do. If he’s happy, let him be.
What the fuck, Joaquin? What the almighty fuck?
I’m sad inside. I like Joaquin.
