Am I eligible for dental insurance?

Asked by Spargett (5398points) October 11th, 2007 from iPhone

I’ve been wanting to get dental coverage for a while now. The thing is I’m pretty sure I have a few cavities and possibly something else I’m unaware of.

Will this affect my ability to get insurance in any way?

I doubt you’ll have any trouble. Dental insurance seems to work differently than medical. I think you pretty much will always qualify, but they have high premiums with very low max benefit (like it might cost $500 per year, with $1000 payout cap). After some research, I decided it simply wasn’t worth doing and am just going to pay for my dental visits myself.

It may depend on your state. I would start my contacting your current health insurance provider and see if they have any dental plans.

The more problems you have, the better to make it worth while paying high premiums for the usual and customary $1500 coverage per year. Be very careful to investigate any plan you can afford. They carry deductions, stipulations and most have their own fee schedule, far below the standard fees that your Dentist will charge. You can get a HMO for less dollars out of pocket but you’ll have to go to a Dentist off their, “list”, and your treatment may be compromised. A PPO plan is always best, so you can choose your Dentist. Why don’t you go to a Dental School and get a comprehensive exam before you worry yourself? Don’t diagnose without a license!
