Are you more likely to lurve a well thought out answer or a quick retort?

From what I have observed people generally give more lurve to answers that are witty than the answers that are well thought out and thoroughly answer the question. Which do you do? Is it helping or hurting the collective?

I lurve me some quick retorts, but if a long and brilliant answer catches my eye I lurve it too. I usually get more lurve from my retorts than my long thought out answers, but that is probably because I rarely think them out.
I must confess that it depends upon my mood and my involvement in the topic. An answer that makes me think, or an answer that makes me chuckle – both will make my finger twitch on the mouse.
Does this help or hurt the collective? I am not sure that I am the one to answer that for myself. But, I do not tailor my answers to gather lurve. My sense of humor pretty much torpedoes lurve-nosing.
I do both. Sometimes, the quick retort makes more sense than the long drawn out response. Other times, they are in poor taste. It depends on the question and what is appropriate.
I also think that subconciously jellies are more likely to repeat the kind of answers that earn them lurve. I think the likely hood of the answer being great goes through everyone’s mind as they are typing it. I don’t think that one type of answer is more valuable than another.
I give lurve to both. When I see an well thought out answer I’m more likely to give it lurve though, even if I disagree with it. Honestly, even though I’m guilty of this, I can see how lurving a ton of witty quips could hurt the collective. It might encourage people to keep giving answers that get them the most lurve and often those are the funny, comical answers. On certain questions I guess that’s ok (What should I have for dinner? Who is the best hero? How are you today?), but on the more serious questions I think people should try to provide quality answers.
depends on the topic. also, it depends on whether it really answered the question or simply was soapboxing of some sort. personally, i think the witty retorts are far more interesting than a half page about something when the question (as @Allie said) is rather mundane. if you want to know what kind of sweater to buy, i don’t want to read a half page about the treatment of sheep in scotland.
i have a hard time viewing this as more than a social club where you can interlink your knowledge with others’. if you take it too seriously, you won’t enjoy it. i know some won’t like that, but it’s the case. if you’re making life choices off the opinions of semi-anonymous people, wow.
It’s not different from real life conversations, the laughs get the loves, especially when wit and charm is involved. I also favor brevity.
I enjoy the silly AstroChuck’s here just as much as our dalepetrie’s, though even he has cracked a joke in his time just as AC has been shockingly serious.
I find myself more amused and satisfied with a mixture of both, too serious or too offbeat is a turn off.
both. i’ve lurved thought-out responses that i don’t necessarily agree with just because of the thought and emotion put into the answer. and i’ve lurved tons of silly answers just because they made me smile.
@eponymoushipster I wasn’t planning on making any major decisions with fluther. Mostly I was just doing a John Stossel sort of question. “Isn’t that wrong?”
I lurve as it strikes my fancy, be they witty answers or well-thought out answers. Sometimes, the witty answer is also the well-thought out answer.
@Baloo72 F:E|) (Stossel)
I agree with asmonet, it’s like life. Are witty comments or serious additions to discussion more enjoyable in class? Both are great and lurve is lurve. (I also think that RL needs lurve besides social feed back, people should walk around handing out lurve to their friends or anyone else who has somthing interesting to say.
If it’s short, witty, and/or makes me laugh it’s got a shot at getting lurve.
If it’s long, and I’m not required to read it, then no.
My attention span won’t allow me to read stuff any longer than 5 lines or so.
@Baloo72 no, i wasn’t throwing stones or anything. just stating my view. i didn’t have you in mind. ‘sallgood.
@Sakata
So you’re not only lazy, but you also have ADD?
Cheesh….
As mentioned by others before, it’s neither one or the other, but also the right answer at the right time.
Some threads get pretty “heavy”, then, a little witty response may work wonders while still keeping the thread productive. Vice versa, some insights may come from a well placed more comprehensive and serious response in an all to light-hearted thread.
I guess it’s not about how witty or serious it is, but how well placed.
@TaoSan Yea, laziness & some ADD mixed in with a little OCD and just a pinch of the other day’s ODD for flavor. Tastes great on a croissant.
You’re quite a concoction, you!
:)
You have no idea. If I were a drink I’d be illegal unless served 50:1.
lol
I’ve been diagnosed with OCD
Oh really? What’s your compulsion?
…..to NOT work haha
Then there’s my issue with procrasti…
Ahh hell with it.
We’re gonna get smacked for hijacking the thread :)
Go ask something silly, so we can banter ;)

Back on topic, you two.
@mrswho: If that were the case AstroChuck would have been buried in a five foot mountain of paper hearts reading ’+5’ months ago.
I wasn’t hijacki… I was making a point relative to the OP’s question about how short/slightly humorous answers get lurve.
Yea… that’s it. I was making a point.
Great, now I’m the fiend, thanks a bunch….......... DESERTER
Get off the plane boys, and put the plastic knives down.
I swear my lower lip is nosetip now, pout pout.
I’m outta here
i missed the fun, but i was told i had a severe case of OPP several years ago. i take medicine for it.
I hate long winded answers, unless they are about something that interestes me. I lurve people I agree with, or who can make me laugh. I alos lurve those folks that do it right. if you don’t know what doing it right means, then you probably haven’t done it yet, it’ll come to you, just wait.
I lurve what I lurve. Funny, smart, long or short…it’s the quality of the answer that makes me lurve it or not.
I’ve given lurve to both types of answers. I’ve noticed that some Flutherites have a talent for giving very distinct, clear, and short answers. Quick and to the point. Those are great.
I’ve also noticed that some other individuals, even though they write a longer, drawn out answer, they do so in a way that encourages me to want to spend an extra 1 or 2 minutes reading them because it is good material. I like those too.
Either way, they can be and oftentimes are decent answers and I’m comfortable giving them lurve. When it comes to individual preferences, to each their own, in my opinion.
I do both, depends in what mood I find myself in.
To be honest some answers did help me, so wear the shoe if it fits.
a well thought out answer
Both, according to my whims.
@Kiev749: It’s a rare find when he is but, I swear I’ve seen it. :)
I only lurve high quality answers. If a short answer makes me LOL, it gets lurve (I don’t LOL much, so it has to be good if I do). If a long answer answers a question completely and teaches me something, it gets lurve. The same with medium length answers. Anything incomplete doesn’t get lurve.
I write both short and long answers, and I write them for fun, sometimes, and sometimes to see what I think. That can take a while as my mind seems to be made of molasses.
I lurve the funny stuff, and if someone has something really insightful to say, they often get my lurve.
Both, moreso the thoughtful answers.
