Making programs run faster on Mac?

Asked by Lost_World (1231points) February 17th, 2009

I have a game which is running a bit slow, and I wondered if any of you know how to allocate to make it faster? Is there a way of giving it more RAM or something?

You can upgrade your ram. What machine are you using?

You can’t allocate RAM to specific programs on macs. All you can do is quit any other running apps to free up as much as poss.

Do you have as much RAM in the computer as it can hold? I was surprised how cheap it’s getting when I recently bought some.

I’m on MacBook Pro with 500mb of RAM, gosh its so difficult using this thing after moving up from Mac OS 9.1.

500mb is nothing – go to http://www.crucialmemory.com and use their memory selector to narrow down which kind of RAM to buy, and the difference you’ll see in the machine is amazing.

You can have up to 2 or 4gb of RAM depending on how old your mac is Upgrading to 2gb or at least 1 will make applications much faster!

Get more RAM.

You could always run sudo renice -20 PID in the terminal. But the game would need to be running to get the PID. But yeah, get more RAM. It is cheap now and it will feel like getting a brand new computer.

You can never have enuf RAM. And it’s super cheap right now. And since it is cheap, get the OEM stuff and not the Brand X. It’s worth having more compatibility.
