How do I upgrade to my headlights to HID?
I am wanting to upgrade my 2006 VW Jetta’s halogen headlights to HID, the same type that are in the VW’s that come with HID, not the really blue or really purple. I want to do this without having to spend a whole lot of money. I also do not want to do this myself. Does altering my lighting void my manufacturer’s warranty? I live in Nashville, TN so if you know of anywhere that does this in the area, please let me know.
Thanks.

I’m not 100% familiar with installing HID lights, but if it’s anything like installing regular light bulbs, you buy them at the store and then you take your old one out and put the new one in. It’s really basic actually, takes maybe 30 minutes. I would buy either the manual for your car (they’ll have a second on the headlights), or look it up online (Jetta’s are sometimes upgraded so you may be able to find a how-to posting on a sports car forum for Jettas).
The only advice I can really give, is don’t touch the bulb with your finger. The oils are bad for them.
Good luck.
Well I know with HID’s I will have to install ballasts which ignite the xenon gas.. so I need to get a conversion kit. But I just don’t know where in TN to buy them, and who will install them.
Thanks for you input :)
Easy. Go on ebay and search “HID my car make\model here” and buy one of the kits. A complete kit will include the ballasts and bulbs. Different Kelvin (K) values for the bulbs correspond to different color temps (essentially colors). Google HID Kelvin chart or something similar and choose the bulb you want. I have used “ebay” kits many of times and never had a problem with them. Installation is fairly straight forward, just tap power from the existing lights. An instruction kit should be included. If you still can’t figure out how to install either Google or ask a buddy.
EDIT: I dont think it will void a warranty as the kit can simply be tapped into the existing factory wiring. No cutting is needed, only removal of the old bulbs and tapping their power wire
Hope that helpped
@Ownage thanks, that was very helpful!
