What is your opinion about "octo-mom", Nadya Suleman, and her now fourteen children?

Asked by essieness (7703points) February 19th, 2009

I’m not sure if this has been brought up, but with all the controversy, I’d like to hear others’ opinions.

yeah, it’s been brought up, but given the new things that came to light in the last few days (namely, her plastic surgery to look like Angelina Jolie, the fact that the house she and her brood live in is $23,000 in the hole and about to be foreclosed on), it stands to say again:

she’s loco

I don’t have the words to express my disgust for that woman!

Are people still talking about her? Yeesh, I can’t wait until she’s out of the picture and the next nut job floods the media to take her place.

The kids are the ones that lose in this situation, there is no way 1 mom can take care of 14 kids, some of them are going to get short changed.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@miasmom i think they’ve all already been short changed.

miasmom's avatar

@eponymoushipster totally agree, it makes me mad and then sad

eponymoushipster's avatar

@peyton_farquhar at least there’s a second parent in that one. although one of the kids’ job is probably making sure mom’s foot and a half long labial folds are tucked into her mom jeans whenever they go in public. gross

essieness's avatar

@peyton_farquhar I see your point, but have you seen their show? At least they’re able to care for their kids, and with little or no debt as far as I’ve heard. They’re slightly weird too, but they seem to have it together.

@eponymoushipster She had c-sections…you think she can really have vaginal births for 8 kids at once? :P

@eponymoushipster, the first thing popped into my head when reading the question was “she’s loco”.

I agree, I don’t know how this woman is going to manage. The whole thing is ridiculous (and sad) and the kids will probably suffer.

peyton_farquhar's avatar

@eponymoushipster if the husband’s still hittin’ it, they’re probably not that long.

@essieness goddamnit, they have a show? Even if they aren’t on the dole and are able to adequately care for their kids, am I the only one who thinks it’s incredibly arrogant to think that the world needs eighteen of your progeny? Just why the hell are your genes so superior?

Adina1968's avatar

I feel sorry for those children. I really think that they should give her a mental evaluation. ( I seriously don’t know what is taking so long!) I think the children shold be placed into foster cared and adopted out to families who have the means to properly care for them. The whole situation is out of control.

It is gross malpractice on the part of the fertility doctor who did the implantation. It is also unclear how she could afford IVF (it isn’t cheap) for so many kids despite being on disability. As for her, she is clearly a very selfish woman. “I’ve always wanted a huge family.” Who is going to pay for their upbringing? Why, the rest of us Californians and Americans, that’s who.

peyton_farquhar's avatar

I second Shilolo. That doctor should be put out of practice.
Also, if you want a huge family, why not adopt?

eponymoushipster's avatar

Ok. so many responses:

@Ashpea9288 – i’m impressed that she’s still having vaginal conception. which leads to…

@peyton_farguhar he might be hitting it, seeing as this was a very popular song.

Tragic situation.

Whats 8 more kids into our already crowded welfare system….just drop in the bucket ?

Johnny_Rambo's avatar

Whats the difference if she had them all at once or one per year ?
Its too easy in this country to burden others with one’s bad choices.

chyna's avatar

Not only am I wondering along with Shilo where she got the money for IVP, but I just saw her on TV with a full set of fake finger nails. Most mothers I know would not spend that kind of money on themselves, they put their childrens needs first.

Johnny_Rambo's avatar

She rec’vd over 100k in some lawsuit according to CBS News, but most of that went to the fertility doctor. Soon, she’ll have government housing since her grandparents house payments are 24k in the hole.

chyna's avatar

@Johnny_Rambo Some of that money had to go to her plastic surgery on her face also. Not sure what that would cost, but it is still money not going to help her kids.

Johnny_Rambo's avatar

I think she got some Angolina lips.

Judi's avatar

Is there a link to an article about the plastic surgery? Did she just get some sort of injectables (about 500 bucks) or did she get implants in her lips (thousands.)
@chyna ; In her defence (just a little) In Southern CA there is a nail salon on every street corner, and acrylic nails are really cheap here. I wonder who babysits while she goes to her appointments though?

chyna's avatar

@Judi Yeah, I can’t imagine she hauls some of the kids down with her for a manicure. That’s such a “me time” kind of thing.
