I have heard it is a technique used to save energy.
When i was a kid the one in front of my house flicked on and off all night. I played in the street in front of house as a kid. I would be riding my skateboard and I hear the light make a buzzing noise then it would kick off for a few minutes. Then it cranked itself back up and stayed on another half hour or so. My guess was it overheated and has a breaker or something that kicked on and off. I hated that light so I shot it out with a b.b. gun. It got replaced and worked fine after that. I have heat lights in my bathroom ceiling that do the same thing. Burn for a while, kick off for a few, burn some more.
yes when I was walking back home from a friends house and walking my dog early in the morning
@buster wow if it wasnt for you that think would keep flickering on and off bother people who still live there. Yay you you`re a hero!!!!!
Most are light sensative. They go on & off depending on the time of day. I think when they flicker, something’s going out in the sensor. (I may be wrong. I dunno)
Yea some are set to go on and off at certain set times so their not running in the middle of sunshine and people that are driving at night can drive safely.
The one’s in the parking lots at my college go on and off all the time at night. That’s safe.
@AlfredaPrufrock thats crazy! the whole time i thought it was some sign from god that i was doomed or something! haha!
I am retired and drive a school bus for a private school near Seattle. I get to the bus barn at 6:00am every school day. There is a street light very near my bus. It goes off on and on constantly while I am there pre-triping the old crate. I would say the light comes on and goes off 6 or 8 times in 20 minutes. I have noticed this lights going off quite often all my life, but never until now actually sat and watched one. I don’t hear a buzzing noise, it just goes off and on. Of course with the old diesel warming up I couldn’t hear a 747 coming over at tree top level! Crazy.
Wonder if there’s a FB group for it… Yep! “Street Lights go out around me…”
