Why isn't my wireless connection working?

Asked by mistermister (257points) October 14th, 2007

I have an old titanium G4 powerbook with a airport card. I am staying in a new place for a month and while my computer picks up a full wireless signal and says it is connected to the network, it won’t let me on the internet. Everytime I try to get online the error message comes up saying it can’t find the host. Its driving me crazy because it had been working fine and suddenly just isn’t anymore. Other people with mac and pcs are having no trouble connecting.

we need more information to help you. when you say “suddenly just isn’t working”, of course you understand that clearly, something has changed. can you think of any changes that your computer underwent around the time that it stopped working? even if you think those changes aren’t relevant… installing any software or software updates, etc…

also, will your computer work with other wireless connections? will it work on this home network using ethernet? try to discover the scope of the problem, then tell us what you find.

Are you using your own wifi, or leeching someone else’s. If you are leeching, the network probably doesn’t allow MAC (not the OS) Addresses. Plus leeching someone’s wifi without there permission is illegal.

problem solved, it was the router where i’m staying, not my computer. thanks for the help though.
