Apple Mail/gmail question?
I have a gmail account as my primary e-mail account. I receive and read my mail on Apple Mail. I just replied to a friend’s e-mail message to a hotmail account through Apple Mail, and in the lower left hand corner, Apple Mail showed three outgoing messages. That’s weird.
I tested the number of outgoing messages by sending a reply to another message from a different person, and it showed two outgoing messages. I sent a message to a second gmail account that I have, and it showed one outgoing message. What’s going on here?

I don’t use apple mail, but try making a hotmail account, sending an email from the apple account, and see if it actually does send more than one message, or if it just shows it. Might just be a glitch.
@LocoLuke, that was a great idea. I did that, and it sent two copies of the message. I wonder if my friend also uses some sort of e-mail aggregator program to manage multiple e-mail addresses, and that accounts for the third message? hmmm…
Are you sending these emails from his computer or something?
Nope, sending them from my mac. If I send to my g-mail or my daughter’s g-mail address, then apple mail sends one outgoing message. If I send to any other provider, then two copies go out. I think what’s happening in that case is that Apple mail sends one copy to the recipient, and one to g-mail. Does that make sense? However, with this one person, 3 copies are sent.
hm, when you sent it to you own account and it showed two outgoing, did your recipient address get two copies of the message?
Nope. One copy. I think it looks like this:
Apple-gmail to gmail—> one copy out (apple-gmail to gmail)
Apple-gmail to aol.com (as example)—->two copies out (apple-gmail to gmail, apple-gmail to aol.com)
When I tried my hotmail.com account as you suggested (great suggestion, BTW) I got the two copies out scenario.
However, when I try to e-mail J’s hotmail address, I get three copies out (apple-gmail to gmail, apple-gmail to hotmail.com, apple-gmail to mystery recipient.)
Odd. I really have no idea what’s going on then. Maybe the government is taking wire-tapping one step farther.
I wondered about that; my phone was tapped for 2 weeks after 9/11 so that possibility crossed my mind.
