Is there anything that will take stage makeup out of clothes?

Asked by TitsMcGhee (8286points) February 21st, 2009

I got a favorite dress stained with stage makeup (although no stage blood, thankfully). Is there anything that will take it out? I’ve run it through the wash a few times and used a spot treatment. I really like this dress… Anything that will help? Should I get it dry cleaned or take it somewhere? It is 100% polyester, and the washing instructions say to wash with similar colors, not to use bleach, and not to tumble dry. When I washed it to begin with, I followed these instructions.

Is the make-up wax based? If so, try a delimolene based product or just use lime juice or lemon to try to get it out. The problem at this point is that it’s been washed so that most of the offending soil is out but the stain remains. If the makeup is wax based chances are the wax (thus the color or stain) are still there.

Best bet…take it to a pro.

Stage detergent? ;)

you could try a bath of warm water and powdered Tide for a few hours (or overnight), then do a good wash with Tide.

Then hang dry.

if you’ve already washed it, if it’s wax or oil-based, it may have set. You can try and take it to a professional dry cleaner, but there’s no guarantee. They have a chemical called TarGo that can help with these kinds of stains, but it usually works best when used to pretreat before dry cleaning or washing (we used to use it for gum, wax, oil spotting, etc.)

I think I would take it to the cleaners—they are professionals, and would know how to make it beautiful again. And they would probably appreciate the work.

GooGone might get it out. I used to use Tide liquid as a pretreatment, then scrub the spot with a brush to get it out. Then wash. If you haven’t put it in the dryer, it shouldn’t be set. I’ve used GooGone to get set in latex paint out of clothing, and tar.
