We use it to determine who serves first in Ping Pong
P – I – N – G
A ping, at least in online games, is how long (in milliseconds I believe) it takes for you or your device to send a packet of information to the server. Sometimes it accounts for that, and the time it takes for the server to send it back.
The farther away you are geographically, the longer it takes.
Something like that.
But then why should I bother pinging some website from my iPhone? I mean what’s the point?
@steve6 Its a phone aswell as a location device :)
no the ping is a location device
Ping is often used as a speed test. Low ping, fast connection. High ping, slow connection. That is why its shown to you on your iPhone.
Ok that makes sence, but why should I ping a website? Seems like an odd thing to do.
@Melonking welll if the site isnt loading for you, you could ping it to see if your getting any connection at all or if the site is just down.
then again, this awesome site is made for that reason.
LOL that site gets a prize, so I don’t need to ping my site 500 times to make it cool?
Wait what happens if I want to know if that site is down?
Ping can also be used to test your own equipment to see how fast it responds. Ping is a speed test. Especially with that new crapola proposed where corporate websites will load fast & the websites of us peasants will load slow, Ping is a useful tool to see if you’re being rooked.
It is also the sound made when a golf ball hits a metal pole
