The old ___ is better than the new one.

Asked by Jeruba (56034points) February 22nd, 2009

Nostalgia time: they don’t make what like they used to? What has only declined since reaching some peak in the past and now is shoddier, cheaper, uglier, more complicated, stupider, more useless, less durable, or whatever, than it used to be?

I have a lot of vintage clothes and shoes, and those things were certainly made better back in the old days. It seems like the drop-off in quality in clothes for the masses was the early 80s.

Oh, and Coca~Cola.

@Dog- Technically, there’s only been one Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The 70s movie version of Roald Dahl’s book was titled Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

@AstroChuck- I stand corrected. You are right.

Customer service. Remember when cashiers used to count out your change for you instead of plopping it all in your hand at once, along with the receipt.

Jeruba's avatar

@jonsblond, and they said “thank you” or “thank you for your purchase.” Now I say “thank you,” and if they respond at all, it’s with that contemptible “no problem.”

jonsblond's avatar

@Jeruba lol I’m the one that says “have a good day”.

TheHaight's avatar

@jonsblond and @Jeruba I am a cashier and consider myself a very friendly one. it’s the damn customers that don’t acknowledge me. and it’s majority. either on their phone (SO RUDE) or I tell them to have a good day and they reply back “sure” or “thanks”. I never heard a “you too!”

ps i always count out their money..especially if it’s a large amount of change.

jonsblond's avatar

@TheHaight I agree with you. People in general are just plain rude anymore. Looks like Jeruba and I need to shop at where you work! :)

TheHaight's avatar
