Caffein (sp?) is a laxative, as well as a stimulant. The primary reaction, that is.
After many years of HARD coffee-drinking the secundary reactions kick in, and those are the opposite, oddly enough.
Hot water will do it too, so I don’t think it’s the caffine.
@Judi That’s interesting… hot water, huh?
Yep. One of my first jobs was in a nursing home and we had a little old mad that we had to bring a pot of hot water to at 5:00 every morning or he couldn’t go.
I imagine the oils in coffee are a contributing factor. Decaf has had this effect on me as well.
Decaf has caffeine too.
Protein shakes in the morning also make you go #2
Smoking Cigs to too!
Decaf doesn’t have enough caffeine to make any difference.
Actually eating anything can make you want to go to the toilet but you learn to control that urge. If you lose that control (for example you develop dementia or suffer a brain injury) you revert back to opening your bowels right after eating. Its one of the problems of hospitals insisting on feeding everyone at the same time.
my morning coffee doesn’t do that. wtf are you guys drinking?
seriously, i never have to do the no2 until, like, 9pm at night. and i drink upwards of 30oz of coffee a day.
Hmm. Ditto eponymoushipster… I think people in general just tend to get into a rhythm where they go at the same time every day. Maybe you’re just a morning poo-er. :) Try replacing the coffee with something else and see if you still have to go!
It’s a Pavlovian response.
@Lightlyseared Right you are. All my dogs always have had to go out and poop after they ate.
Again back to Pavlov’s dog.
no you’re not a wierdo. Me too.
