Would you be offended?

Asked by LouisianaGirl (1159points) February 25th, 2009

My friends and I were at our lockers and we were talking about her daddy because it was his birthday and he had been murdered like 8 years before. So a little kid came up and he told her something and her response was man forget you and he said your daddy. She didn`t hear him because she walked off but I got in his face because she is one of my best friends. I told him you know her daddys dead? He just said thats not his problem and walked off but se ran so I couldn`t go after him. That made me really mad because he doesn`t need to be saying that to people because he doesn`t know who`s parents are dead or not.

He didn’t know, and therefore had no reason to be sensitive about it. If he did it again you/your friend would have every right to be offended.

But try not to take High School so seriously, it’ll kill you :)

I’d probably find it hard to be seriously offended because you have to consider the fact that the boy who made the comment probably didn’t have any idea that this girl’s father had been murdered 8 years previously when he said it. Additionally, it was just an ‘off the cuff’ response to something told to him by the girl in question.

I understand your reason for being offended because you know the history and she is your friend and under those circumstances, it’s easier to see why you would feel the way you do.

All in all, I don’t see the need to try and insult someone or use a retort that involves someone’s mothers or fathers but that’s just me.

@LouisianaGirl. Now that I’ve seen your new post below and have found out that this boy knew the history of this girl’s father, I find it disrespectful and cruel that he would make a comment like that and you should probably chalk it up to his immaturity and lack of common decency in making a remark like that.

No he knew because he heard our entire conversation and I kept saying I am so sorry your daddy died.

What are you asking for? Either you were offended or not. What this sounds like is that you are looking for permission to take it further-why would you run after a rude jerk? Ah yes, let’s have a confrontation and maybe fight. Don’t we love all that high school drama?

There is no reason to react to this person at all. He’s a boy, like you said. You need to be a woman and focus on why you are in school, to become a productive citizen and cut out the playground games.

If you don’t know how

The kid was being a cruel jerk. Just try to consider the source and ignore him, or the problem will probably continue.

Consider the source. Life is too short to let morons get to you.. however, I think you’re a good friend for sticking up for yours.
