I used to be a Windows user but switched completely to Mac 4 years ago. I have given all the Windows desktops away except for one laptop. Now that I can use my mac’s for anything even Windows related I want to give this laptop to my housekeepers son who could really use it. Problem is I can’t remember the password! I didn’t think I had enabled the password required feture. So my son and I went through the few password that we could remember until we finally got the computer (laptop) to log in. Then I proceeded to remove the password and any others I may find which I thought I did correctly. I erased the few files we had on the computer to make it ready to give away. I shut down the computer and just to make sure I turned it back on and to my surprise I was asked for a password again! Problem is now the password doesn’t work and it won’t accept it. I am beside myself and about ready to throw this thing through the window. I have wasted so many hours on this. And I know how much this laptop is needed. But I don’t know what else to do. Its a handsome laptop that is top of the line and will be more than anything he could ever wish for. Please can anyone help me?

reinstall the OS using the system software restore CD/DVD that came with your laptop; otherwise. You need to get a copy of the Mac OS X system install software to fully reset the system. When you do you can just set up a default password for the main Admin account with a password hint included and under system prefs/accounts you can set it to automatically log in.
Why do I need a Copy of Mac OS X for this laptop? This laptop runs MS Windows Professional.
Im going to try the first suggestion you posted. Good thing I kept all those cd’s that came with it.
thanks so much.
The mac OsX cd would only be for the mac computer. I think sndfreq just mistyped, but that’s essentially what you should do. Just have the windows install disc and reinstall windows.
yeah misunderstood thought it was a mac laptop…cheers & good luck with that project
Well you can always crack a windows password with Ophcrack. First you need to get the ISO file for OPHRCACK live CD from here. Then burn the iso file onto a disk. After that you boot up your computer with the live CD. then follow the instructions from lifehacker as to how to crack a password using ophcrack. Its pretty simple . Just look through the entire tutorial and you’ll have the password in no time
also heres an alternative method (not as fast as the ophcrack method)
at lifehacker
Have you tried to just hit enter when the lgoin screen comes up? ometimes if you’ve reset the password to blank that will work.
The CDs I found didn’t included ones for this laptop. But I found a copy of Drive Scrubber2 and used it then I loaded a copy of Windows XP all over again and its like a brand new computer. Thanks to everyone here for helping me out. I love this site!
well how about this… i know this works for a FACT… i do it all the time to alot of computers that come into this house… when you start the computer up press and hold F8 it will ask you what you want to do in white letters and all black screen…. go to safe mode… (not with networking) go to safe made click enter… after that you have overridden the password/login… go to start then go to control panel click on user accounts… then delete all users until it just has administrator… or yourself… then go to passwords and click no password its just that simple FU@K all those programs they are telling you to download they come with spyware worms or even viruses you dont need that… then also i know how to get a product key if anyone ever needs help with this you can email me… imwithmackin@aol.com keepzin_it_gutta@yahoo.com tiggaz_bacc@yahoo.com or tha1mp0rtrac3r@aol.com
