Do you secretly not like someone who everyone else seems to like?
Ok.. this question popped into my head because I have 1999 lurve and it made me think of prince… who fits the bill for this question for me. Seems everyone is into Prince but.. I’m not.

Yup! Often the massive attraction to someone/something will elude me. I wonder if people like them/it just because everyone else does; or maybe “it’s just me”. :)
Yes, however, I am actually quite certain that most people don’t like this individual either, but that they are also pretending to like her because it appears that everyone else likes her. That and the fact that given the kind of person she is, it is much easier to just smile and play nice than get on her badside. I like to choose my battles :0)
Jonas Brothers. I mean WTF?
Yes. I think most people feel this way about someone.
If I don’t like something or someone, it’s not a secret. I’m not nasty about it, but I’m not going to hide my dislike.
Well, Im the type of person who just can’t adjust to trends…I feel absolutely nothing about the bands, cool jeans, etc. The closest to I ever got to liking some public figure was my vague impression that Avril Lavigne was pretty and that was just about it. Oh yeah I enjoy Paramore music a teeny tiny bit. So like everybody around me always says something like “Why the He** could you not like…Zac Efron?” or like “You don’t know Kaiser Chiefs??” Oh it just bugs the heck out of me :) Not saying I hate them though…just not interested
Will Smith, but I don’t keep it a secret.
I really don’t know any of these people, so any like or dislike I might have for them is purely unsubstantiated by anything but gossip.
With that said, I think Avril Lavigne would be prettier without the raccoon eyes, but what do I know (not much according to my kids, who are teenagers).
And Prince is really, really short.
Yes, one of my husbands relatives. Every dang holiday!
On a personal level, my second ex-SIL. However, anyone who really gets to know her soon agrees with me.
What was my brother thinking?
When I first read this question, I thought you were talking about fluther people. I’m glad you’re not.
@dragonflyfaith: what’s the deal with the Jonas Bros? There was a big add for them in the paper today. Who is their target audience? Are they really big at the moment?
@daloon – Boy band of brothers. Disney-based. Famous among tweenie girls.
@aprilsimnel: Uh-oh. I better hide that ad a bit more carefully. I wonder if all her friends will be going. Ick. Oh well, maybe my wife can take her, if necessary. Although, after the Alicia Keyes experience, maybe she’ll prefer to listen at home. (The volume was beyond pain).
@daloon – I concur about the Jonas Brothers: “Ah, the Jonas Brothers. Three pop-rock virgins with a loyal tween fan base, teamed with Disney, a match made in heaven.” (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Camp-Rock-DVD-Jonas-Brothers/dp/B001DR9TO2)
They get all the girls who are tired of Miley Cyrus or who are just that little bit closer to puberty that they are starting to think boys might not all have cooties.
Yeah, if this were The Simpsons, they’d be on the cover of the current issue of Non-Threatening Boys magazine.
I don’t like their shoddy music! But I’m not supposed to.
Although I now have the courage to admit it, I was actually wondering whether the Prince was the Prince of England or just someone Ive been unaware of…ha ha ha…I gotta keep up with the trend…sigh…
@Darwin, Daloon: I have a huge beef with the Jonas Bros right now for kicking Coraline off the 3D screens.
@EP – Caroline was great…I hate the Jonas Bros.
Fergie. I can’t stand Fergie. I know people like her, they think her songs are good – seriously…“My Humps?”
Also, why does she feel the need to spell in her songs? I don’t know how many songs she’s spelled words in, but it’s more than one? Are we that bad that we need a singer to spell simple words for us?
I’m pretty upfront about most of the people I dislike, but some individuals that come to mind are Beyonce, the cast of Family Guy (I think I’m the only person in the world who finds the show obnoxious), the Three Stooges, Shirley Temple, and perhaps a flutherite, here or there.
I like Stewey’s voice…it’s really funny to just see a baby speak like that :)
@cak: Thank god, you understand! She just seems to into herself, and way more self-important than she deserves to be.
Harry Connick Jr., can’t stand him. Never could.
I have no reason to keep it secret. Just ask. I’ll tell.
this question is HOT… Everybody’s writing something here :)
Yes, and it drives me crazy because both men and women heap lots of adoration on her, and in the meantime, I know what she’s really up to.
I think some people get it, but many don’t. She’s extremely toxic. It would be pissing in both of my social wells (past and present) and it would blow up in my face if I ever made my feelings known. I’ve just totally withdrawn from her, and when she suggests plans or invites me out, I’m just always “way too busy.” I do try to see her at least once a year for some reason or another, to keep things cordial.
There are a few very successful regional artists I know whose work is intellectually simple-minded but technically exciting (fancy materials, explicitly arduous process). I know them, I like them. Their work (and success) makes me a little sick.
I’m an artist too, respected but not glorified. Some of my distress is about my relative lack of marketing drive.
So unless someone explicitly asks me, I say nothing about these guys’ work. I acknowledge their success with a smile and let the issue of quality slide.
Sarah Jessica Parker. I loved her in Square Pegs, but there’s just something about her that really annoys me anymore.
I can’t think of anybody I actually KNOW that falls into that category. It is a lot easier to dislike someone you don’t really know. Maybe in the real world you don’t have to know or deal with people who rub you wrong (No rub cracks from Daloon or A-Chuck, please), but celebrities are everywhere and hard toignore.
But if we are naming names: Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Hugh Hefner, Michael Jackson
I don’t think there is anyone who I secretly dislike.
Either I see some good in the person or I don’t spend time with them.
Other people’s opinions don’t really matter that much.
@galileogirl – What about “rub crack” cracks?
Are those allowed?
Oh, hell yes! Everyone else loves them and I think they are the most egotistical, self-centered, pain in the ass, anal bitch. =] Thank you.
lol, but you don’t feel that strongly about it. do you, Allie?
What? Moi? Rub cracks? Never occurred to me…
Until you mentioned it.
Given some of the conversations that are going on now, it does give one…

@cak: I know EXACTLY what you mean about Fergie. Seriously? I’ve always thought that her face looks a little busted – and a few days ago I saw her in hi-def and was like “yikes!.” I just never got that one.
Plus, she pees in her pants.
@figbash – yeah, hi-def really can change things, can’t it! I just don’t get the appeal.
@PupnTaco – oh…..I forgot about that! (I thinks he swears it was sweat…uh, ok.)
Yes!! There are a few people that everyone seems to like but I just can’t stand to even think about them. I’m keeping it under my hat…shhhhh!
@figbash – Meth. Late teens through early 20s. Hi-def can’t hide methface!
No, I openly dislike several people that everyone else seems to like. I utterly despise, in no particular order, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Paris Hilton, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern (the radio guy, not the scientist guy), Chris Rock, Mariah Carey and Conan OBrien. That’s all I can think of at the moment. There might be a flutherite or two I don’t like, but maybe I just don’t know em well enough yet. :-)
Wow PupnTaco has more than 10000 lurves
@evelyns_pet_zebra – Who honestly likes Paris Hilton? Or Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern (the radio guy), and Chris Rock?
@Darwin I like two people on that list.
I won’t tell you who to avoid persecution.
@evelyns_pet_zebra – But do they really like them or is it more a form of fascinated horror, as in “OMG! Is it true she doesn’t wear underwear?” Or “How can he/she say/do that? And what will he/she say/do next!?”
@Darwin I just find them entertaining, though I may not agree with them.
@Darwin, I don’t know about anyone else but for me, its more like “Did you hear that so-and-so died?” and my reply would be “Well, I feel bad for their family, but you know, the air smells a little sweeter today for some reason.”
@jonsblond my idea of entertainment would be Ann Coulter being eaten by a pack of rabid wolves. Make that a film of Ann Coulter being eaten by a pack of rabid wolves shown on YouTube.
@evelyns_pet_zebra I can’t stand her, but I do find her fascinating. Life would be boring without the “Ann Coulters” of the world.
@evelyns_pet_zebra – I wonder what it would be like to put Ann Coulter and Nancy Grace in the same room. Throw in Paris Hilton and we need to sell tickets!
@jonsblond – I never said I didn’t find their antics entertaining. I don’t, however, like them.
@Darwin I understand. I like them because their antics are entertaining. Just a different way of thinking about it. :)
@daloon I didn’t say anything about Jonas Bros. I know nothing about them to be honest.
@dragonflyfaith – Actually, you can’t really dislike the Jonas Brothers. They are too forgettable.
I don’t really care much for Obama.
@Darwin I really don’t pay attention to this new Disney teen crap. Anyway, I scrolled up…it was Dragon face that was talking about them.
I think you should always be honest and upfront in regards to how you feel about people. I know I am.
A few people- but let’s not bring It because I moved away from them!
