I just saw The Notebook last night and it is the absolute best movie that I have ever seen.

I read the book. It was far to ‘sniffy’ to watch as a movie.
Nicholas Sparks tends to use “Tragedy Ambush” (to coin a term) and his books are great until the last chapter and then I wish I’d never read them.

I know my mama and I were crying our eyes out! I was red all over from holding my breath and trying not to cry bit it was a really sweet movie! Love it!

It isn’t the best movie ever if your grandmother was going through the same thing. There is no way I can watch that movie without getting completely depressed. Sure, it’s lovely and romantic, but when that happens in real life, it is by far the most depressing thing you’ll ever go through.

Louisianagirl’s bubble: POP! Sorry.

I watched the movie and read the book. I liked the movie but I think I like the book a lot better. They both made me cry. Nicholas Sparks is a great author, i’ve read his other novels as well.

@Les I`m sorry to hear that but don`t worry I`ll build my bubble back up!

Nicholas Sparks went to my highschool and was friends with my econ teacher. :)

@peyton_farquhar Did he make your econ teacher cry?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Yes, I’ve seen the movie. Excellent. But it’s something that I’d not want to see again, or read the book. Too sad.

@Grisson my econ teacher coached highschool wrestling and had sex with women, so probably not.

@LouisianaGirl I saw it in theater with a girlfriend. dragonfly warned me ahead of time to take tissues. I cried from the dnace they had in the nursing home untill way after the credits finished, and all the way into the ladies room afterward!! WAHHHH!!!

The only other movie that can do that to me every time is Steele Magnolias ( the graveyard scene) I love how it makes me cry and then laugh hysterically.. what a roller coaster ride!!

LouisianaGirl's avatar

@scamp I did the same thing with The Notebook
And I live where Steel Magnolias was filmed!!!! i loved the graveyard scene too!(tear)

You should read some of Nicholas Sparks’ other books, like A Walk To Remember, all of his books totally get you at the end.

LouisianaGirl's avatar

@miasmom After I saw that movie and hearing that all of the ending are sad I might pass but who knows I might I will check into getting A Walk To Remember

miasmom's avatar

Just be prepared for a tough ending and then it won’t be as shocking as if you weren’t expecting it.

His mystery/suspense books are good, too. He has two venues he uses. The Guardian, I believe it is, is excellent.

I thought that James Garners performance was incredible. Read the book too.
Liked the book better aside of James Garner.
