Not yet as great as Firefly, the other Joss Whedon series I know—but an interview with the star (at the Onion AV club) made it clear that the first season really gets Whedonish (complex and interesting and long-term-developy) during the second half of the season. The network wanted the first half of the season to be simple self-contained episodes that people could understand even if they hadn’t seen any of the other episodes.
Overall, so far I think it stinks. Last week’s episode was interesting but for all the wrong reasons, i.e., the storyline of the bow hunter and the woman was interesting in and of itself. It didn’t need a “Dollhouse” component to make it interesting.
And yesterday’s episode wasn’t exciting at all, IMHO.
I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet. But I plan on sticking with it for a while to give it a fair chance. After all, I don’t have anything else on Friday nights.
It’s on Friday? That’s odd… does that suggest the network isn’t giving it priority? (I’ve been watching it on one of the TV-streaming sites.)
More than likely fox dosent think it will succeed. Fox hopes in there dream whedon fails.
@cirrina That’s a good point. Good shows are never on Friday.
I really like it, and I can see where they are going with it. I already like it better than Angel.
Ah I liked Angel. I actually liked it better than Buffy b
I consider Buffy Joss’ Magnum Opus. But you are totally entitled to your opinion.
There’s only one reason I like Angel. Hint: For the same reason I like Bones.
David seems so much cuter now. I never thought Angel was hot.
I must admit, I’ve only recently started watch an episode or two of Angel. Bones was what got me started on him.
Personally, I’m really getting into Dollhouse. I think the whole trust reversal thing in the second episode came too soon, but I trust Joss Whedon.
@cirrina: While there might not be shows that you consider good on Fridays, there certainly have been some popular ones. Stargate SG1 was on Fridays,a dnit lasted 10 seasons. Dr. Who is also on Fridays and is still going strong. Battlestar Galactica is on Fridays and that’s fairly popular among the sci-fi crowd. Dollhouse is a sci-fi show and it’s headed by Joss Whedon who brings in a lot of sci-fi and fantasy fans.
X-Files was on Fridays for a few years.
I really liked this week’s episode. I thought it got realllly interesting.
I like it so far, I don’t love it, but I love Joss and I have faith in his incredible talent (plus Eliza is just plain HOT) so I will continue watching and maybe I will end up loving it. Who knows?
