COLDPLAY! I always thought they sounded like Radiohead light…now I think their new stuff sounds like U2 and not even in U2’s good days! I really would be happier without Coldplay on the radio. ever.
@MrMeltedCrayon I agree 110%. She’s probably ABOVE coldplay on my list, BUT I hate Coldplay in general. I hate Katy Perry because her music sends the worst messages ever.
Mary J Blige. I dont understand the hype over her. She doesnt sound all that great to me, but whenever shes on stage people think its the best thing ever, I dont get it.
@babirurtle36 I’d agree with you on Mary J. Blige. Never really understood what was so special about her.
In regard to Katy Perry, her music is terrible but for some reason it’s so damn catchy!
U2… i cannot stand any of U2’s music.
Theory of a Dead Man
Nickelback
Akon – i dislike his voice
Crap I can answer that question fast jonas brothers I can’t stand them!!!!!!!!This question was something to talk about
Lil’ Wayne and Kanye West. No further comments.
@lacerbabe99 – Not like any of U2’s music. WOW that is a lot of different sounds not to like. Not that it’s not ok. In the last 5 to 10 years or so they have not been picking up new fans. A lot of the time though, younger people like October, Boy and the like. Just curious. Good for you! I agree on Nickelback.
For me its the Grateful Dead. I just can’t make it past their singing. Or their sound. They can play their instruments fine but their songs do ZIP for me.
@Bri_L
It’s mostly bono’s voice that ruins it for me.
and yea. lil wayne is totally over rated
lets put 50 cent in this line up too… not even when he first released “in da club” HATE HATE HATE!
and shania twain.
sorry, they just keep coming to me in short intervals
@lacerbabe99 50’s first album was good but since then, I’d definitely agree with you.
@lacerbabe99 – It’s funny, I didn’t like them but didn’t know it at first. Then The Joshua Tree came out, which I loved. So I went back an found that Pride and Bad were by them and I loved those songs. So I got the tapes. Then found out the songs I didn’t like were by them. Suddenly I was more forgiving. What a schmuck.
Madona. Blech.
nickelback. i don’t know if everyone seems to like them, but i can’t stand them.
jonas brothers.
I’ve never understood the attraction of U2, Aerosmith, or Bruce Springsteen. I wouldn’t say that I hate any of them though. Heart, on the other hand. BLECHH!
I guess it’s like anything. Some people like them, some people don’t.
What I like about U2 is they tend to have very rhythm based songs. I really enjoy that.
Josh Groban
Jonas Brothers
Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, I like the Plain White T’s but I despise their new song 1234, and TI.
The Grateful Dead, I never understood the hype. I cannot get into them and I have tried because I thought there had to be something there. Nope.
Aerosmith is a big one for me. I just don’t hear the appeal. And Blink 182. They weren’t good when they were 19, they should accept that they’re well into their thirties by now.
@adreamofautumn: I know! I fail to see what’s so amazing about her when her songs can basically be summed up as “lol im calling u a fag” and “I’m an attention whore, so I’m going to play a game of pretend lesbian.” I guess good looks and shock value can go far.
Also, yeah, Coldplay is kinda shitty. Never much got into them.
Pink. Nickelback. Hinder. Lil’ Wayne. Elvis. AC/DC.
@ladytmerie I feel the same way, and I’m a huge classic rock fan. I like my jam bands (The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers), but the Dead never did it for me.
John Mayer. Even that stint on Chappelle’s Show didn’t redeem him.
He is full of ick and bleah, musical and otherwise.
And I was never a fan of Madonna. Never. Most of my friends think there’s something wrong with me, because they love her. I’m just like ::shrug::.
Good call with John Mayer.
“Fathers, lock up your daughters…”
Ugh.
Amy Grant and Celine Dion.
@lacerbabe99 lurve for Shania Twain. :)
@Mamradpivo I would agree that Blink 182 is not very good…they had some redeeming songs, but they were lost in the mess. On the other hand, all of their respective bands that they formed post-Blink 182 I absolutely LOVE. I’m more depressed that they will have less time for those projects if Blink 182 is back together than I am worried that they will make something as god awful as “enema of the state” again.
Third Eye Blind. especially the lead egomaniacal singer
Seconding the Coldplay, U2, and John Mayer.
Adding Beyonce, the cast of Rent, any Disney manufactured fucks (Jonas Brothers have been mentioned, but Miley Cyrus, HIlary Duff, etc. should be on the list too), and Journey.
I seem to have mentioned how much I hate Beyonce on a regular basis around here lately…
I am stunned at the hate thrown U2’s way when they so obviously rule! :-) (their my all time favorite group, but I just turned 40 so I’m an old fart)
Oh yeah, I knew I was missing one! John Mayer… I just hate his songs. Especially “Say”. I mean, come on we get it “Say what you need to say,” You don’t have to say it 50 freaking times.
I admire John Mayer’s current taste in woment. grrrowwlll
@TitsMcGhee – Beyonce is like some sort of R&B android to me. I don’t like her. I feel nothing when she’s melisma-ing all over the place. At least when Aretha does it, she’s got something emotional behind it.
@Bri_L You know how I feel about U2. Guess I’m old too. :P
Me senses jealousy here.
Beyoncé = Hot!
BEYONCE =/= HOT.
I am all for admitting that women are hot, sexy, cute, or what have you, but I must firmly disagree with you, my good sir.
I have to chime in on the John Mayer comments. I can see how people might not like his radio hits (I agree with you guys about Say), but I’m a fan of his guitar playing skills. You have to admit, he’s one hell of a guitarist. And aren’t most great guitarists a little full of themselves? Maybe he’s just the one for our time :)
@AstroChuck – The Inter-Universal League of Beings of Hotness could proclaim her their leader for all eternity, but If I’m going to be a fan of someone’s singing, they have to move me emotionally somehow. With her, I get bupkis in that department, that’s all. I think she’s way overrated as a performer.
This is a great guitarist.
@aprilsimnel: And I don’t think she’s hot OR talented, so that’s two strikes from me!
Wait a minute. She sings too?
Pink Floyd. Ok, it’s not that I can’t stand them, but I think they are HIGHLY overrated. Some of my friends did this live version of “The Wall” once and when I dared tell people, I got sworn at simply because my friends had dared play the “sacred songs” of the Floyd. By people who had never bothered to go and see for themselves obviously.
@Jack79 That’s terrible. I HATE people that think their favourite band/artist is too good to be covered by another band(see People getting upset over Oasis covering The Beatles “I Am The Walrus” live(and I prefer oasis’ version to the beatles)
@THATguy Ok, now look… I see what you’re saying there, but I saw Chevelle last year and Finger Eleven opened for them (yuck). Not only did they suck immensely, but they had the audacity to cover Zeppelin. Now, Oasis (even though I personally don’t like them) is a popular enough band and happens to be talented enough to “go there”. But Finger Eleven covering Zeppelin? The rock gods died a little that night.
I haven’t heard the ones you mention essieness, but I was not too happy about Madonna’s “American Pie” version either. I’ve also heard a very bad cover of some U2 songs recently, and have been cleaning my ears since. I don’t think we should accuse people for incompetence though. If they’re not good enough, time will tell. I think anyone should be allowed to at least have a go. though perhaps some should be persuaded to have their go in a basement, with the door tightly shut
As for that concert you mention, perhaps Led Zeppelin weren’t available? ;)
@Jack79 yeah you could say that haha
It used to be that certain songs had 10 or 12 different versions by different performers almost at the same time, and it was all good. I think it was Pat Boone who messed up a fine tradition of creating standards by doing lifeless covers of great songs like “Good Golly Miss Molly” and “Blueberry Hill”. Even Elvis’ “Hound Dog” is a cover.
There’s over 3000 versions of “Yesterday”. Now, JohnPaulGeorgeandRingo are my boys, but there are fine covers of their songs out there. And that’s good, because it means their songs are standards. In the canon. Solid. Good to go. Won’t be forgotten for a long, long time. If I were Paul and Ringo, I’d be right chuffed.
