How do I live through yet another snow storm tonight and tomorrow?

Asked by gailcalled (54647points) March 1st, 2009

I have used up all my good cheer and good sportsmanship. Plus the money for plowing bills. 7” – 11” predicted. Milo is going nuts being cooped up, as am I.

Grab a favorite book, light some candles and read aloud/act out each character’s lines. :) It’ll pass some time, you’ll feel like a huge goofball and Milo will think you’re insane – which is entertainment for him! :)

Bring out the Scrabble board game, read in front if the fire, take advantage of the electricity while you have it. Oh, and make a snowman. Name him Pinky.

Settle in with a great book, hot chocolate and lots of batteries. Molly sends lurve to Milo and says it’s almost spring.

If I had magical powers, I’d wish for it to come my way instead. I’d love a big snow storm before the season ends.

Just remind yourself that you will have those hands dirty from your garden very soon!

Misery loves company. Call a neighbor and chat for a while.

PS. My 94-yr old mother broke her wrist on Friday and is now in rehab.25 miles from here. She is miserable and the food is beyond disgusting. It is my turn to go to our library, get some large-print books, pick up a decent sandwich and slog over there to check that her fingers haven’t turned gangrenous, yell at the PT people, the nurses, and generally make waves. Maybe I’ll rent a dogsled team.

March has not started out well for you. Be careful when you go out to see your mother and don’t break anything yourself.

I’m with you, Gail. I’m on Long Island, yet we’re still expecting just as much snow. A long day of shoveling and cleaning is ahead for me too.

gailcalled's avatar

@Eambos; It is really getting tiresome, don’t you find? How far out on the island are you? I did hear that the city was going to be pasted. My daffs. were showing about 2” of leaf tips above the soil. I guess that they and I will tough it out, once again.

I’m right in the center, on the Great South Bay in Bay Shore. Since we’re so much closer to the water, we don’t get as much snow, but we still get a decent amount. This is actually the first storm in 7 years that the superintendent has closed the district. I was so happy with our two week break from snow, but now it’s over…

gailcalled's avatar

@Natural: I am obligated ^^ to drive 50 miles unless my house and garage are buried tomorrow AM.

@Eric: I hope that this storm is the last gasp. I grew up on the Westchester side of LI sound. You are on the ocean side?

Sorry for for snow induced misery Gail. Please be careful tomorrow so you don’t end up in a bed next to your Mom.

gailcalled's avatar

@bythebay: Now that would be a fate worse than death. Luckily, I have a really good SUV with AWD and once I navigate from fog hollow to the main roads, I will be fine.

My daughtr’s BF’s 83 yr.old father broke his hip last week and one of her girlfriends’s father had a stroke. It must be something in the water.

bythebay's avatar

@gailcalled: No water for you! :)

eambos's avatar

@gailcalled Yes, 5 minutes from the ocean over Robert Moses Bridge. I really do hope that this is the last of the snow. It’s already March!

@GC You know I sympathize deeply with the mother issues. Deep breaths. Winter seems to be hanging on brutally long this year up north. When and if you get out, bring home some spring flowers (daffodils? hyacinths to soothe your soul?) and put on as many lights as you can handle. This too shall pass.

Keep Milo handy to use as a warmer. Good luck!

onesecondregrets's avatar

Spend it with me! ...I’m going to be secluded by my lonesome through it as well. :(.

When snowed in, cook.
When driving in snow, sing loudly.

What a drag, Gail. Lurve across the miles. Lucky you were burdened with Milo all those
months ago; I see what a good daughter you have. Hope your ma is okay. Be careful.

We already have 10”, and they’re expecting more. Oh boy!
