Is the mac side of my computer gone forever?

Asked by lunabean (630points) March 2nd, 2009

i had windows xp and mac os 10.5 installed but not through boot camp. i decided to delete the windows partition with the disk utility and try reinstalling windows through bootcamp. i restarted my computer to see if the partition had disappeared but apparently both of them are non existent now. i reinstalled windows because it’s the only disk i have and when i press the alt key all i get is the windows partition and nothing else. i have already tried to reset the pram with no luck. is there any way to get my mac stuff back without having to do anything drastic?

You are fucked. I’m 95% sure your Mac partition is gone.

If I were you I would install my os on another drive completely, then use that as a base to see what, if anything I could salvage from the other drive.

@Bri_L I’ll try your suggestion. The partition was there when I chose the one for windows. I was hoping to somehow access it without having to use another computer.

I see where your coming from. U am just thinking that every attempt at toying with it directly is a chance at data loss.

The best thing to do now is salvage what is left. Try starting it holding alt. If the os x partition is still there it might show up. If not, start the mac holding T, connect it trough a FireWire cable to another mac to read your computer like a removable disk.

Well, that’s what you get for running windows in the first place!
