What's your hpv story?

Asked by missjena (918points) March 4th, 2009 from iPhone

I was diagnosed with precancer (cervical dysplasia) at 21. I am almost 24 now. I’ve had countless biopsies and colposcopies. I also had the laser surgery of my cervix. I am totally on top if my health. Most peoples cervical dysplasias go away by now right? How did you get your so go inactive? I understand there is no “cure” but I need it to go away like most peoples do. I know vitamins work on this bc my sisters hasn’t showed on her pap in years and the only thing she added was apple cider vinegar and colic acid to her diet. I’m miserable knowing I’ve been in top of my health but I might get cancer anyway because of my precancer that won’t go away! Anyone have experience with this?! My next pap is in 2 weeks and he said I’ll need another surgery if this continues! I’ve had so much stuff done to my cervix it’s going to effect me carrying a baby. Please help. How long have you had hpv? What’s your story and what did u do to rid it? Or get ittostop attacking your cells. Btw I have no warts just the precancer.

I honestly apologize for the typos. They are not on purpose. It’s typing on the iPhone which is hard with my fingers hitting every letter.

I was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia about 20 years ago, when I was about your age, and before they knew that it was caused by HPV.

They monitored it for a while, during which time I had an unplanned pregnancy (I had just started graduate school, and was taking the pill). So having the baby put that on hold.

I don’t remember all the details and delays, but it was a couple years later that I was scheduled to have the cryosurgery, but I became pregnant again. Sadly, that child was miscarried.

Then my insurance changed and I had to switch Doctors and I wound up having the LEEP conization to remove the damaged cells. I haven’t had an abnormal pap result since then.

Looking back, I suspect that the man I was with during those years had infected me (he never had any type of symptoms), and that us continuing to be together kept exacerbating things. He and I separated (and eventually divorced) about a year after the surgery; so I don’t know if the problem would have persisted had the relationship lasted.

I honestly don’t know enough about HPV and cervical dysplasia to know if there are things you can change in your sexual practices or hygiene routine to reduce your chances of exacerbating it. I know that certain supplements, such as Lysine and Zinc are supposed to help supress viral activity and strengthen immune system functioning.

Your best resource is your Doctor; and if you have only been to one Physician, you may want to consider getting a second opinion. You might also want to do some research on WebMD and the Mayo Clinic websites. There are probably HPV organizations and support forums on the web, too.

I hope you are able to successfully treat the dysplasia and stop the recurrence. Good Luck!

As for typing on the iPhone, I’ve had mine since the first day… my nails were longer then, and that caused issues with the keypad. Now I keep them short and accuracy is better. You can edit/correct what you’ve typed: touch and hold where you’re typing to get the little magnifying glass to appear, and use that to move the cursor to where you want it. Also, when on the web, you can turn the iPhone sideways, and when you type, the horizontal keyboard is bigger.

I was diagnosed at 17, and had a colposcopy/biopsy soon after. When I got those results, I was scared out of my mind, so I told my mother and instead of going to the clinic, I saw a real gyno.
I had another exam, and talked to the doctor. She felt a wait and see approach would be best. So, I got paps every six months.
One came up abnormal, so she went to do another colposcopy/biopsy but when she went to do it, it was normal looking. So, I didn’t get another biopsy.

At the time, I was smoking and quit smoking. I also began to eat better. I’ve heard Folic Acid can help it heal

I’ve since had only one abnormal and that was in December 2007. I’m still waiting for my results from my follow up which was in December 2008…they seem to have lost my results and I’m none too happy, since I don’t have insurance and this is important.

I would try not to stress. Stress can make your immune system worse. Maybe you should get a second opinion. I’ve heard wait and see to be the best approach because it actually gives your body time to fight it.

So since u were 17 Till now how many abnormal papsdid u have?

Hmm, well there was the first abnormal, then the colpo, then a normal, then an abonormal (which was a false positive, i had had sex the night before, which is a no-no), two normals, so I then went on to yearly exams. 2007 I was 21 and that was my first abnormal in a while. I just had a repeat pap and I still haven’t gotten my results.
I really think you need a second opinion. I got a second opinion and that was the best decision I made, because my first doctor told me I had cancer…which wasn’t true at all. Some doctors take more drastic action than others. Depending on what your exact diagnosis is, you can wait and see. Mine was CIN1

I don’t understand why my paps keep coming up abnormal for all these years. I know my immune system is pretty healthy because I hardly get sick. Has anyone had a similar experience like me? I’m starting to wonder. I’m doing everything I can to be on top of it and I can rid the dysplasia! Eventually this can be very bad..

I got diagnosised at 18 and like you had just the precancer cells. It was a horrible and I was scared to death. Fortunately I had amazing gyno and like casheroo said I was a smoker and that can have a great affect on the cells so if you smoke you really should quit. Also I know that if you have sex with a person that is also has hpv and you have unprotected sex your partner will keep reinfecting you even though you already have that kind of hpv your body wont be able to build its immunity to it. I had to have the every six months pap smear and i got a biopsy done so I know a little of what you are going through even though mine was not as severe.

UPDATE: My sister was diagnosed at 29 years old with Vulvar Dysplasia and its the severe kind and the dr explained this is very rare! I almost positive I have the same thing because we compared and have the exact same symptoms and have a Dr app in a week. I am very worried. HPV is killing both my sister and I. There isn’t any treatment either! I dont understand this because there is a cure called the AAV2 virus cure but the FDA wont fund it. This is so frustrating and heartbreaking because it would cure the virus in 6 days as well as many cancers. I have spoken to the scientist myself, his name is Craig Meyers, and he has had this cure for many years but it gets no funding. My family has donated so much money to them but still nothing.

Is there anything else we can do to rid the precancer hpv is causing us? We are so young and are tired of dealing with dysplasia. Its been about 5 years. Please any advice at all would be useful.
