Free/cheap live music in LA?

Asked by nikipedia (28095points) March 5th, 2009

I need to escape the Orange Curtain. Do you brilliant jellies know of any good venues to see talented, thus-far-unheard-of bands who play for the love of the music?

If you like things on the weirder side The CIA in North Hollywood is a good place to go, it’s usually $10 at the door. I also like Safari Sam’s although their prices vary by show. They just moved downtown so there site isn’t up to date right now.

spaceland and the echo are the quintessential spots for the up-and-coming bands to play. a lot of hot indie bands played before they made it, and a fair number of them come back after they’re famous. look at clubspaceland.com and attheecho.com for deets—look for free shows on monday nights and especially “residencies”.
