I use mineral powder, but my skin is extremely dry, so I’m not a good gauge on this.
I don’t know where you live, but we have Rite Aid stores here that will refund your money on any cosmetic for any reason. It might be worth going there to try out various brands and take them back if they don’t work for you. (keep the receipt)
Try blotting your oily bits with a little witch hazel on a tissue before applying foundation.
@Chyna thank you, i didn’t know that they did that, i have a Rite Aid close by.
You know, I have an oily T zone and I’ve found that makeup just makes it worse. Especially foundation. I’ve tried tons of stuff, even the expensive drug store brands formulated for oily skin.
However, I found a HUGE difference when I changed the soap I use to wash my face. I use Bert’s Bees garden tomato bar soap for oily skin. It’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me. All the other stuff makes my skin nasty-shiny. Try it!
Oh thanks a lot, i love Bert’s Bees Products! I’ll definitely give it a try.
& @gailcalled What is witch hazel? I’ve never heard of it.
It’s called an astringent.Witch hazel(astringent)
@vegelizabeth: If you have naturally oily spots on your face now, your skin will age well (if you stay out of the sun). Young women with dry skin have lovely complexions for a while but turn into prunes as they get older. I still have very good skin because I was a grease ball as in my teens and twenties.
@gailcalled ahahah i do have some oily spots, but it shows more when i put any kind of foundation on it. I’ll have to look into the witch hazel. thank you.
Powder + foundation is key for eliminating oil.
I swear by MAC products.
The natural finish foundation is great, and to get rid of oil use a powder on top of foundation and you can re-apply it as much as you want all day long on top of oily patches to get rid of the shine.
@lc: Do you ever feel as though your face is caked with powder by the end of the day?
Investing in a good foundation and powder will save you money in the long run.
When is comes to make-up always remember: cheap is expensive!
I never feel caked with MAC. The key to this is using a natural hair brush to apply it. I use the Kabuki brush from Sephora. The powder I use is MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder. I seriously apply the powder maybe 8 times a day and it always looks natural and feels like I’m not even wearing anything.
Do you have a Sephora store near you? They carry a lot of quality products and the staff is very well trained in diagnosing skin types. That will even help you try multiple products and they don’t pressure you to buy.
I use Bare Minerals which I LOVE but I dont have particularly oily skin so I suppose thats not much help on this matter.
I don’t have a sephora store around.
My makeup looks great in the morning but after a few hours it begins to look oily.
I use Almay Smart Shade. It’s great at evening out your skin and it’s not oily at all. My mom started me using it bout a week before my wedding. It lasted all day, I didn’t even notice it. I actually forgot to take it off that night after the wedding & my skin was fine the next morning (usually if I leave makeup on for a whole day I break out – my skin’s very sensitive).
@vegelizabeth how did the make-up hunt go? Did you end up finding something you liked???
The makeup hunt went great.
the advice from everyone was very helpful.
I ended up getting a new product from maybelline called Mineral Power it’s a natural liquid foundation then i put Bare Naturale which is a gentle mineral powder over it and it works great!
So thanks everyone!
Bare Escentuals bare Minerals Foundation or MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation
Oh, the horror, the horror.
