Mirrored are flashy; polarized are useful.

Polarized glasses reduce glare by blocking transmission of horizontal light. Mirrored sunglasses are simply nonpolarized sunglasses with a mirrored finish.

Edit: Cost is the other difference

Can’t they put a mirrored finish over on polarized lenses?

Polarized really does make a big difference with glare reduction, and are worth the extra cash. For me it’s one of those things that once you’ve tried it, you won’t go back (like heated seats in the car).

@hearkat: ditto to the glasses & heated seats!

@hearkat: Yeah they can. Not sure why I stated that mirrored sunglasses were nonpolarized, dummy me.

@critter: Thanks; I thought the two could co-exist. :-)

Given the reason why you wear sunglasses
hint: because it’s sunny outside

Isn’t the practical difference in the value they hold?
Polarized glasses are useful in reducing eyestrain…
Mirrored glasses are useful in increasing eyestrain…
of others

Polarized do help reduce some glare and can help you look “through” things, like water and windshields.

OTOH, polarized can also pick up some weirdish color gradients that you wouldn’t otherwise see.

@robmandu: I love that psychadelic effect!! 0_o
