Dude, half the internet is about this and there are at least a dozen questions on Fluther about it. Search first please.
Oh, and smoke weed don’t give a FUCK.
Who knows, Just dont get caught and enjoy (:
Issues with the law are about rules, not making sense.
I’ve learned eating healthey and exersise make you feel better.
no, seriously
I don’t care who smokes. Don’t drive, don’t do anything stupid and it’s fine. However, I do think that the fluther moderators should impose a 2 week hiatus on all marijuana and gay marriage questions. sigh
Every time you get stoned, use that time to try making an effort to change the law. If successful, there will no longer be an issue.
No ill feeling from me here.
Why do people become nasty?Have i shot Bambi?
I honestly don’t know why it is illegal while alcohol is legal. The bottle destroys many more lives. I’m guessing that booze is hard to make so people don’t bother. So it is easily taxed. Weed is easy to grow so if it was legal it would be harder to tax.
I’m a drunk, I barely ever smoke weed.
Now thats a valid point, bloody taxation again.
Don’t know. As far as I’m concerned, it should be treated the same as alcohol and cigarettes.
@johnpowell – they tried making alcohol illegal (remember the term “Prohibition”?) but it turned out it actually is easy to make (now remember the term “bathtub gin”) so all that happened was folks got drunk anyway but the government didn’t get any tax income.
Perhaps if marijuana were taxed the laws would be changed. I remember hearing that many years ago the tobacco companies trademarked various names for joints just in case they could diversify their plantings.
From a 1976 tobacco company memo:
“The use of marijuana today by 13 million Americans is socially the equivalent of the use of alcohol by some 100 million Americans. It is the recreational drug; the choice of a significant minority of the population. The trend in liberalization of drug laws reflects the overall change in our value system. It also has important implications for the tobacco industry in terms of an alternative product line. ”(The tobacco companies) have the land to grow it, the machines to roll it and package it [and] the distribution to market it” (Reference 200.) In fact, some firms have registered trademarks, which are taken directly from marijuana street jargon. These tradenames are used currently on little known legal products, but could be switched if and when marijuana is legalized. Estimates indicate that the market in legalized marijuana might be as high as $10 billion annually….”

I don’t think any politicians want to say they supported the legalization of marijuana, kind of like no politician wants to say they supported lowering the drinking age.
@AlfredaPrufrock wallow in your nastiness,me i smile at this beautiful world!Good bye and have a great life.
@zerocarbon, I’m not trying to be nasty, but that was a difficult thread for a lot of people, and with some ill will associated with it. While pot usage is a common topic on fluther, it has been a tough few days. That’s all.
It’s illegal because there is an outdated stigma surrounding weed.
I just say fuck it – I could give a shit less what lawmakers or uptight anti-drug philistines think about what I do.
@TitsMcGhee for the first time ever I just double checked my fluther to make sure someone was in it. Apparently you already are, but more importantly you’re answers rock my world so much I would have added you a second time. :)
