hm, Cher or something? Not a huge fan of techno but I tried..

This sounds like a remixed version of uh, Steve Winwood’s:Valerie

Thanks -

I was thinking Cher too, but could not find a Cher song that matched.

I can really see how this is reminiscent of Valerie, so I will look for a remix.

It’s “call on me”/“Valerie” by Steve WInwood…the remixed version is called “call on me” and it’s by Eric Prydz.

Side note…if you like the song you should listen to “proper education” by Eric Prydz. It’s a remix of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”. It’s pretty great.

Thanks – adreamofautumn – you are awesome!!! I just downloaded it from Amazon. I will check out the rest of his stuff.

No problem. He’s pretty great. :)

Yes it’s a Valerie Winwood mix..poor Stevie’s being crucified by that version

SeventhSense, just because your taste in music is limited to “Steve Winwod” type music, does not make other types of music bad or a crucifixion. In fact, in this case it appears that Steve Winwood really liked this. Herald.ie indicates that Winwood heard an early version of Prydz’s remix and liked it so much, he not only gave permission to use the song, he re-recorded the samples for Prydz to use.

But. Steve Winwood also has a broader taste in music than you do. Please don’t take this as criticism, as my point is we are all free to our own musical tastes and our individual tastes do not determine whether music is collectively bad or good.

@kim
HOLY GENERALIZATION!!!!....It’s like me saying you only like purple jellyfish and hate every other color??
I like every form of music from Classical, Rap, Rock, Metal, Reggae, Jazz, Blues and on and on
I just don’t appreciate an artist taking a song and not improving or transforming it in some unique way- like MCHammer doing Rick James…Vanilla Ice doing David Bowie/Queen’s Pressure. This song just sounds lame in my book. My opinion.
Who’s Wynwood?
As to Steve Winwood liking it…It’s in his best interest to like it if it’s popular. He’s making royalties.

SenthSense – I like this version and stand by my belief while the opinions of myself and the millions of other people who purchased this song may not qualify it as a “good” piece of music, your opinion does not qualify it as a “bad” one.

And yes, I agree that it is entirely possible that Steve Winwood “sold out to the man” and let money impact the opinion of the song he expressed.

For the record, I too am a classical fan and have never once gone to the symphony (I subscribe) wanting an improvement or transformation to the music and I do not believe you have either.

@KimJSCP
What does this statement mean?
“I do not believe you have either”

KimJSCP's avatar

SeventhSense – I do not believe you have gone to the symphony wanting an improvement or transformation to the music, but I could be wrong.

@KJ
It’s not like Beethoven cut a record..So if it isn’t the Boston Pops or NY Symphony we only have sheet music. And most of it is quite subjective as to interpretation.
