More Than Words. I can’t remember who sang it.
For the cheesy romantic in you, check out some George Benson (Just The Two of Us and Let Me Love You One More Time, for instance), Al Green, James Taylor, or Barry White.
Don’t know if that’s the genre you’re looking for, but I hope it helps.
More Than Words is by Extreme. Also, try Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina
Not really into romantic music, but the closest I can think of is “Warmness on the Soul” by avenged sevenfold on the album “Sounding the Seventh Trumpet”
“You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To”
Cole Porter
sounds cozy-cutesy (the title) but it takes off and swoops into big starry romance
“All the Things You Are”: Jerome Kern – Oscar Hammerstein III
*You are the promised kiss of Springtime
That makes the lonely Winter seem long
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song*
Gorgeous chords and harmonies-recorded by everyone and his brother, and Frank, Ella, Charley Parker, Mingus, Tony Martin, Jo Stafford
something by the beatles
layla ( unplugged ) clapton or wonderful night
There are a few tracks from Moulin Rouge soundtrack that are romantic albeit a little over the top.
You are the sunshine of my life- Stevie Wonder
Have I told you lately that I love you- Rod Stewart
Everlong- Foo Fighters
Can’t Smile without you- manilow
I belong to you- kravitz, lenny
Just the way you are- billy Joel
Now & forever, loving you forever – carole king
Friday Night- the darkness
Come by me, love is here to stay- Harry Connick, jr
Island in the sun- weezer
Did you ever look so nice?- the samples
if it’s not too late here are some more…..
you are so beautiful by joe cocker
i’ll be good to you by the brothers johnson
i’ll be around by the spinners
just to be close to you by the commodores (*a very good romantic song)
will you let us know what you pick?
I’m not sure how old you are, or how serious or fun you want to make this compilation but here are few others that are all over the map. I would also include any song that makes you think of here – even if it’s not “super-romantic” per se, since your explanation of why it reminds you of her can be so much more powerful:
Love Song – The Cure
More than This – Roxy Music
Please Forgive Me – David Gray
Every Breath You Take – The Police. This is also great if you’ve ever stalked her!
Wrapped Around Your Finger -The Police
Tea in the Sahara- The Police
Such Great Heights- Iron and Wine
Wild Horses -The Rolling Stones
And there are a lot, lot more I could add, depending on the tone, etc. Also, you could always add a few songs from soundtracks of movies that you’ve seen together, that you find significant; first date, etc. But ultimately, this should be really personal, too.
thanks for all the suggestions – it’s fun to see what other people’s ideas are… i don’t think i ended up using any of them but some of them spurred other ideas…
here’s some of the songs i used -
musik & charming melodee – mary timony
honky tonk women – taj mahal
sea of love – cat power
try a little tenderness – percy sledge
the glow – robin cutler
smells like happiness – hidden cameras
wouldn’t it be nice – the beach boys
the garden – lovers
i really wanted to use dolly parton’s “i will always love you” but it’s actually about parting ways… thanks for all of your help. i should have posted this earlier, there are some songs that were mentioned that i’m gonna check out just for fun…
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush in “Don’t give up” and Nora Jones with “Come away with me”.
one of my all time faves is the one i suggested just to be close to you.
you could always make other compilations and have them for other special times w/ her.
I adore “Into My Arms” by Nick Cave, which he sang at Michael Hutchens’ funeral, and remains an incredibly pure expression of love, spiritual and romantic.
Chris Isaac – Wicked Games
Peter Gabriel – In Your Eyes
The Luckiest – Ben Folds. Yeah, I know…cheesy. But still. :-)
Too late for anniversary #2 (congratulations!), but for #3…“Come Rain or Come Shine” – Glenn Frye (among other artists), “I Hear a Symphony” – The Supremes, “Lullaby” – Dixie Chicks, “I’ve Just Seen a Face” – The Beatles. And of course, the first one you danced to with her, the first song that made you think of her, the first song she shared with you, etc. etc. Happy mixing!
“Forever Love (Digame)” by Anna Nalick
“Forever Love (Digame)” by Anna Nalick
If you grew up in the 80’s, I would say “if you were here” by the thompson twins. This can be heard at the end of the movie “sixteen candles”
Hold you in my arms – Ray LaMontagne
That song is beautiful ^^
