Well, to sacrifice means to give something up for the sake of someone or something else. In this case, a life. Seems to me one would have to be willing to be sacrificed, and generally, human sacrifice is coerced. The gods for some reason require it. Religion. shakes head

In the modern workplace it allows the bosses to put blame for a failed project a lesser employee. The sacrifice of the lesser employee pleases the CEO Gods and allows the boss to continue to make stupid mistakes until there is a need for a new sacrifice.

Hey, gods get hungry, ya know! However, a lot of them would prefer a good roast bull to a scrawny human in any case.

However, human sacrifice is a good way to keep from having to house all those prisoners of war, and a great excuse for one heck of a ceremony.

It’s usually a twisted attempt by someone to gain power.

I think part of the idea is to part with something one would like to hold onto in order to show proper respect and love for the gods, regardless of whether the gods can make use of it. So one sacrifices the most beautiful young maiden.
