What do you think of the new Facebook layout?

Asked by TitsMcGhee (8286points) March 13th, 2009

I hate hate hate the new Facebook layout. I know everyone said that last time the layout changed, but it’s far more obnoxious this way. Do you think Facebook just wants to be Twitter?

What the hell is everyone talking about? I don’t see it!

Bluefreedom's avatar

I hate it too and so does every friend I have that is on Facebook. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone?

@Allie. Apparently the website has changed already for some and is in the process of changing for others right now. They’re slowly gravitating everyone towards the new look. That’s what I’ve seen so far anyway.

essieness's avatar

I like it. Change is good.

Allie's avatar

@Bluefreedom I’m always one of the last ones to see any switches. =[

i hate it. too cluttered. i just got used to the old one.
and yes. i am seeing a trend. Xanga and Live journal wanted to be myspace, Myspace wanted to be Facebook, and now Facebook wants to be Twitter. Eventually we are just going to have a cluster-luck of social networking sites…

Hating it!!!

rooeytoo's avatar

Why does everyone hate it? It seems good to me, all in one place instead of hopping all around.

Yah, I don’t understand all the fuss. It’s slightly different. Basically, the area that I read most now gets more screen real estate. That’s called “doing it right”.

OTOH, I don’t jack around with all kinds of snowballs, flair, pieces o’ green, mafia wars, vampyre rankings, blah-dee-blah either.

aviona's avatar

I like the really really old one.

All this new news feed shit just makes it easier for people to internet stalk each other!

Also what’s the deal with teachers and parents and the likes getting Facebooks?! It used to just be for college students!

Allie's avatar

Here‘s what my friend and I had to say about it.

casheroo's avatar

It’s definitely too cluttered. And what is up with the giant font? It looks ridiculous.

TitsMcGhee's avatar

I just hate that you can’t tell what is a status update and what is a wall post from looking at it. The new typeface makes it feel like I’m a senior citizen with bad eyesight. I also hate that all things in the feed aren’t together. And, just to be clear, @robmandu, I don’t do all of that shit either and I still hate it.

adreamofautumn's avatar

We could already see too much about what everyone was doing on your homepage as it was and now it’s even worse. If I really want to know that much about what someone is doing i’d go to their profile.

Hate it.

Haven’t seen a change yet – I didn’t like the last change, I highly doubt I’ll like this one.

ponderinarf's avatar

I have learned Gmail allows its users to use older versions and newer versions. Cannot Facebook just leave a “switch” for individual customizations, too?

bythebay's avatar

Annoying, really annoying.

omfgTALIjustIMDu's avatar

Apparently they haven’t heard that you don’t mess with success.

aidje's avatar

There are some good things about it, such as the ability to filter by friend groups. Overall, it’s a lot messier.

Like much in life, just when you get used to things being one way, it changes. The only constant is change, as we have all heard. Facebook is keeping up with people’s want/need/desire for constantly updating sh*t. It really doesn’t matter one way or the other to me. I’ll adjust

casheroo's avatar

After taking a minute to look it over, I hate it even more.
Nothing is separated by the day. It just tells you when it happened. Activity is grouped together and then the status’s..so it looks like someone made ten updates right at the same time. It’s not organized at all. I don’t understand why they did this.

mea05key's avatar

it supposed to make things more organised because you can now select to see the categories that you want. I think people will like it once they get used to it.

@aviona, social media’s aging in as a legitimate communication medium. It’s a community. If you live in a “community” that’s single age focused, you miss a lot.

The other thing that’s interesting is how Facebook pages can be handled when someone dies. FB has a process to “Memorialize” the page, so you stay out there for perpetuity, with changes to the visible information. This is interesting in that it establishing “community” funerary practices.

Whats weird, it only says “Welcome, [your name here]” when you have an invite or friend request. And when its like that, the font sizes are lopsided…

As far as liking it, not bad. Its a little different, but oh well.

But I DEFINITELY agree with the whole twitter idea…its happening…live…literally…

willbrawn's avatar

It’s funny cause these are the same reactions the last time facebook changed. You’ll get over it if you dislike it.

ulka's avatar

The fonts are huge, the thing is a mess. I don’t see why they needed to mess up the clean, small, minimalistic design they had in order to add a few features. And rounded corners for thumbnails??? Ugly.

essieness's avatar

@ulka Ooooh I like the rounded corners…

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I like it. I hated the last one; I missed so many people’s birthdays!

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@La_chica_gomela: ... the bday info is in the same place though… what?

Allie's avatar

Mine finally changed yesterday. I was complaining to my friend that she hadn’t sent me any bumper stickers and she said she had. When I insisted she hadn’t, she came over and showed me where the notifications show up. I’ll get used to it I guess.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

@TitsMcGhee—No, it’s not. It was on the right so far down on the page that sometimes I had to scroll down to see it, and it was also buried in with all the events I had been invited to, even if I declined. Now birthdays have their own section (still on the right) but at the very top of the page. I think it’s a huge improvement.
