Do you ever get the impression that your pet is in a bad mood?

Every once in awhile my oldest cat, Flower, seems like she is in a bad mood. If the other cats come near her she growls and hisses. When I try to pet her, she gives me the cold shoulder and gets up and walks away. She’ll act like this for a week or two and then go back to her normal, kitteny self. Can an animal just be in a bad mood?
