I can feed myself on 43 dollars a week. Or less.
I can make it stretch.
Every two weeks, I stock up on some extras for about thirty bucks more.
Between 50 and 70 per week, depending on how rambunctious I’m feeling about cooking that week. I also can go for two weeks on that amount. The key is making food that you can have leftovers.
I spend $70 to $100 every two to three weeks. Much of the variation in price has to do with alcohol—sometimes I’ll stock up on a couple bottles of wine, which adds up quickly.
Also I am really lousy at packing lunches and end up buying food on campus a couple times a week.
Wow. I can’t imagine how much it would cost if it were just me. For my family of three, we spend $100 every two weeks. And only eat out once during that time period.
I probably spend anywhere from 35 to 50 a week depending on if I have to stock up on t.p. papertowels and dog food. And I take my lunch about 3 or 4 times a week.
I live in Hawaii where a gallon of milk is $6. So what I spend for food is $250+ per month for myself IF I budget carefully and do not eat packaged foods; only tea, no coffee, no alcohol and no juices!
Check out this amazing series of pictures of families with their groceries from around the world. It’s mind-blowing. Taken from a book by Peter Menzel from the book “Hungry Planet“http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1626519,00.html
@An8el thats pretty interesting… remind me to never go to Poland, that family’s favorite recipe was pigs-knuckles. Sick…
I spend about $30–35 per week on groceries and I never eat out. Most of my budget is spent on fresh fruits & veggies and milk. I also don’t spend money on most “filler” foods/drinks though (like chips, soda, coffee, juice, etc.)
My wife and I budget about $400—$500 a month on groceries. So if I was single, I would most likely be eating mac and cheese, spaghetti-o’s, or ramen noodles every night. So I would estimate my single grocery budget to be around $150 a month.
I spend about $200/mo @ the supermarket. I usually run abt $85–90 bi-monthly including delivery then the other weeks I may buy a little fresh produce. Also I cook very little so lots of soup, salad or deli chicken. Even cheerios for dinner when I am really uninspired.
I’m in college in NYC, and I spend under 1,000.00 on food per semester, which is usually between 50.00 and 75.00 a week, depending on how much I eat out (and how much ramen I’m willing to eat that week).
$60.00 per week average if I divide up all the stuff for month, including non foods like toilet tissue, detergents, sundries.
Well, I budget $20—$30 a week for myself…and usually don’t go over that.
I’ve found that not buying convenience foods (i.e. Hot Pockets, frozen meals, pre-marinated meat) is the best way to spend less.
Also, shop the sales—figure out what you’re going to eat for b/l/d each day of the week, and match that to what’s on sale.
Only buy fruit that’s in season—grapes, citrus, stone fruits, apples, etc. all taste better when in season.
Learn how to cook a few basic things—french toast freezes well, chili is easy (in the crockpot), chicken is easy, breakfast for dinner, muffins, granola, yogurt, etc.
Also, if you start making things at home—i.e., toothpaste, cleaning supplies (vinegar and/or baking soda cleans most things), shampoo, etc., this will cut down on your expenditures as well.
Helpful?
$50 – $80 a week. Or the most I can carry in a back pack and a duffel bag. I am trying to get bulky items delivered. Like Toilet paper and Carnation instant breakfast in a can from Amazon.
