What song do you think best represents the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald?
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot is the first one that pops into my head.

Um, isn’t that the only song about the wreck? (And thanks, now I have another song stuck in my head!)
Haha, I think syz is right, but lurve for Lightfoot. :)
Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys really addresses the sinking of a Great Lakes cargo ship.
I know I could look this up, but I’m too lazy to, but I had heard that song (or parts of it) was written before the wreck. Probably urban legend.
I’m going to have to go with “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by Gordon Lightfoot.
I’m sorry Blondesjon, I’m feeling very redundant tonight. =)
Ok, I looked it up. Ship sank before the song was written, so it was an ugly rumor.
I always enjoyed singing The lyrics from Stairway to Heaven to the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
@AstroChuck…i’m weeping (and singing it out loud with my son)
@Blondesjon & @AstroChuck – OK, but have you tried synching The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald tune to the scene in Blazing Saddles when the Cleavon Little arrives as the new sheriff while singing the Stairway to Heaven lyrics?
Mind. Blown.—-> Yours.
All I’m sayin’.
Remember that Andrew reminded us, long ago, that you can sing all of Emily Dickinson’s poems to “The Yellow Rose of Texas.”
(Pulled at random: CXXVIII)
IF I could tell how glad I was,
I should not be so glad,
But when I cannot make the Force
Nor mould it into word,
I know it really is a sign
That new Dilemma be
From mathematics further off,
Than from Eternity
That song always brings a tear to my eye. I love Gordon Lightfoot, he has some good songs. This is one I’ve always liked, too.
Except for maybe Carefree Highway.
I’m going to see Gordon Lightfoot next Saturday night. Yay!
