Does anyone take anti-anxiety meds as part of their daily regime?

Asked by aviona (3260points) March 15th, 2009

For example Klonopin or Xanax. I’ve always been prescribed to take and have always taken them “as needed” (AKA when I feel anxious).

Does anyone here take them, say at morning and at night, regardless of consciously realizing anxiety, but possibly in anticipation?

I take Ativan daily. For right now, the anxiety attacks have been so severe that my doctors thinks it’s best if I just fend them off from happening.

I do, Celexa, 20mg, but I’ll be going back to 10mg soon.
I have Xanax in case of a panic attack rearing up on me, but I’ve only used them twice in three months. And that was in the beginning, so things are looking cheery. :)

I used to take Xanax, I liked it better than Ativan. It helped me quicker. I was prescribed it for four times a day, then it got down to “as needed”. That was over two years ago. I stopped all medication while pregnant and haven’t looke back.

I had Klonopin when I was first diagnosed. I took a whole pill, which put me right out. Then a half. Finally a quarter was what I could handle without falling asleep at the wheel. After I stabilized, I stopped using them. In fact, I just gave some away to a friend who is a very anxious kind of person.

Supposedly, the more you use it, the less effective it is, and the higher a dose you have to take. I’d stay on an as-needed basis, rather than going prophylactic, if I could.

Funny thing—I could have used some today.

I take Effexor XR every day, and have Xanax for ‘as needed’. For a time I took Xanax 3 times a day (during a very stressful time or two). These days, I rarely take one.
