How can men find it comfortable to sit on their wallet when it is in their back pocket?

Asked by TitsMcGhee (8286points) March 17th, 2009

I’ve tried to do this when I don’t want to take a purse, but I find it extremely uncomfortable to sit on it. If you do this, do you notice it? Does it ever bother you? Do you worry about being pickpocketed? Is there something that makes it more comfortable? Why would you put it in your back pocket instead of your front?

After a while, you don’t even notice. I have a men’s style bifold wallet that I keep back there. You notice at first, but then you don’t. I put it back there because it doesn’t fit up front in women’s jeans. Men, however, must come up with a different excuse. I’ve stolen a pair of my boyfriend’s pants. I know. You get way bigger pockets up there.

I always keep my wallet in my front pocket, as I can’t stand sitting on it and when it’s back there it’s far easier for it to get it stolen.

Oh I bet you never asked Vince this question…Mr Shamwow.

There is nearly a whole seinfeld episode based on that.

I wouldn’t keep a wallet in the back pocket as you might as well hang a sign saying pick pocket me!

mangeons's avatar

Well, if you were sitting on it, I would think it would be kind of noticable to have someone sticking their hand all over your butt? But maybe that’s just me…

But seriously, I have a money clip and a couple of cards and that’s it. If I need more than my driver’s license and one credit card I’m travelling too heavy. I also have a leather card holder that goes in a jacket or my glove compartment but rarely in a front pocket and never in my back pocket…and besides… I don’t want to block the ladies’ view.:)

@mangeons: It helps if your pants are tight enough that you have to wiggle the wallet a bit to get it out.

@krysta.Hey!

I don’t like big or even medium sized wallets.
About 15 years ago, I started carrying an old cigrette case (you know those slim silver ones) for a wallet. I keep my DL, a CC/debitcard, and few of my smokes.
Ofcourse there’s also the 2 pics of my 5 & 8 yr old girls!
Couple of Jacksons tri-folded fit in there perfect.

@Bagardbilla: I use a cigarette case for the same thing (minus the cigarettes), and I definitely can’t sit on that.

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@charliecompany34: You don’t want bulges ANYWHERE?

Nancy13903's avatar

I dunno.but will help to empty it to make it more “comfy”

jrpowell's avatar

I keep mine in my back pocket. It doesn’t bother me and I have an ass like Hank Hill.

btko's avatar

I have a hard time – so I keep it in one of my front pockets.

casheroo's avatar

I don’t use a wallet or purse. This always seems to blow people’s minds. not sure why
I put my ID and mac card and any money I need, in my back right pocket. That’s it.
I can’t imagine a wallet in my front pocket! How do you sit??

mangeons's avatar

Cute wallet, JP. You never fail to impress. :)

asmonet's avatar

Hey, I do it all the time. When I get sick of my nice white wallet I just pull out my black leather tri-fold and stick in the back right. I kinda prefer it. Or I do what casheroo does, essentials in the pocket and you’re good to go.

I gotta say, some wallets are far more comfortable than others, my leather one and my two duct tape wallets are better than any others I’ve tried.

mangeons's avatar

I have a super bulky black leather (or probably pleather) wallet with a metal buckle, it would be very painful to sit on. I keep it in my purse. I’m thinking about getting a soft wallet to use as said instead though. ;)

MrMeltedCrayon's avatar

I’ve never kept mine in my back pocket, so I wouldn’t have any idea.

DeanV's avatar

Because I have a tiny wallet. All it really has is a bus pass, student ID, and a few ones.

peedub's avatar

I can’t really get used to it. I take it out when at a restaurant. I take it out while driving. Shit, I take it out wherever I go.

arnbev959's avatar

You get used to it. I used to carry a wallet in my back pocket, and I didn’t never think about it. Now I don’t carry one no more. It’s more comfortable without one.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

I have a dent in my ass that the wallet fits right into. Sort of like digging a hole in the sand for your hip when camping out.

PrancingUrchin's avatar

Ya know, i’ve heard that some men have reported back problems associated with wallets in there back pockets (sorry can’t cite it). My wallet certainly isn’t robust enough for these problems :(. BTW, how do women have a purse with a ton of crap keep it on their shoulder for so long?

ckinyc's avatar

If men can get used to having the thing between their legs. We can get used to the wallet in the back pocket.

TogoldorMandar's avatar

Some men don’t have a butt so it feels like we have a butt when we sit down(its also comfortable somehow)

Dr_C's avatar

Since I have an ass like solid granite… Things like wallets don’t bother me.

@Dr_C…ladies.
