Did they say or hint when the new iPhone 3 is supposed to be released?

The software will be in the summer. Which means late August. They didn’t talk about hardware. Don’t expect new hardware.

iPhone OS 3 = June

Exactly. Please make the distinction between iPhone 3 and iPhone OS 3.0. It was the OS 3.0 that Apple was showing yesterday. “iPhone 3” refers to a new form of hardware, similar to the difference between iPhone 1 and iPhone 2 (and iPod Touches also).

Correct it is OS 3.0.

Rumor has it it will include tethering and copy/paste. Also, possibly, a new way to organize your apps on the home screens.

It’s not a rumour. Many of the specs were released yesterday. Copy and paste is a part of it.

And you don’t need to worry about the SDK.

And to further muddy:
iPhone = iPhone 1
iPhone 3G = iPhone 2
unannounced = iPhone 3
